Offered for your consideration is a pair of vintage AKAI #20S-H30 8 inch woofers that were original equipment in my SR-H30 speakers made in Japan, c.1975. Best remembered today for their superb reel-to-reel tape machines, AKAI also produced many quality speakers in the 1960s-70s mainly for the Asian and Australian markets. These heavy magnet 8 mid/bass drivers were likely used in other AKAI speakers from the 1970’s, may be suitable for retrofitting in other brands’ speakers, and are a good choice for vintage driver speaker-building projects. So, please have a look at the large photos and read the remaining description to decide if these outstanding vintage drivers are correct for your needs. These AKAI woofers are in clean, excellent condition. The sturdy textured paper cones are flawless and so are the voice coil dustcaps. Plus, the surrounds are permanent rubber instead of the fragile foam that was in widespread use at the time; they should last indefinitely. Also, the gold-tone anodized steel baskets are in great shape with no dings, scratches, or oxidation and come with their removable plastic flange covers. And, I’ve left several inches of wire soldered to the input terminals for the new owner’s convenience. Overall, these woofers are exceptionally well-preserved! Most importantly, they’ve been fully tested and sound terrific—fast, clear midrange and solid low end output. Plus, I tested their DC resistance at a perfectly-matched 6.7? each, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the baskets measure 7 15/16” diameter (9¼” at corners) not including the flange covers, they stand 3?” tall, and the mount holes are spaced 6?” adjacent / 8¾” diagonal apart, c-t-c. As pictured and described, this remarkable pair of AKAI 8” woofers is offered at a competitive price. Akai GXC-75D Stereo Cassette Deck (Boxed) Vintage Collectors Item-Needs Service. Vintage Akai Cassette deck in impressive condition. First produced around 1974 - 75, it must have been one of the first decks to have auto-reverse tape playback. Two heads, mechanical 3 digit tape counter, Dolby, manual tape type selection and capable of handling normal and chrome tapes, it boasts an impressive specification for its time. With its original box, some paperwork and some fuses. Its unlikely youll ever find such a complete package. Now the condition. Being sold as spares or repairs with the following observations:Powers up fine, mechanical VU meters move, a panel of lights indicating mode etc all work too.However, there are some playback and wind/rewind problems which might be related to new belts being required - it can do with a service or repair as its been in storage for a long time. The tape counter also doesnt move when playing a tape, again, possibly a belt issue. Also, some veneer is missing from the right hand side of the front fascia. It will play music however, but is stops after a few seconds, and the output is weak on one side (head clean perhaps?) Further Details:Typical of this deck is the 70s top loading layout with the cassette compartiment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well.Level meters used on the GXC-75D are analogue needle VU reading meters. Mechanical transport controls for reliable GXC-75D transport function selection. The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the GXC-75D by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies.
