This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a legendary Beolab 5000 type 5303 series 08 amplifier in wonderful full working order, having recently undergone a full restoration by Frede Kristensen in Denmark. As many audiophiles will know the Beolab 5000 combines elite performance with a truly timeless design and my research indicates this series 08 model will have been built in 1969, benefiting accordingly from an upgrade in the way of ceramic filters on the main PCB. The professional standard Beolab 5000 was the first B&O product to be designed by Jacob Jensen and it has become a design classic - even being exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. At the 1967 spring fair in Hanover B&O recevied the IF award from the Beolab 5000. Having sourced the unit I arranged for the it to be fully restored by Frede Kristensen in Denmark, a leading expert on these amplifiers, who has a passion for and deep knowledge of them. The power transistors of the power output stage (4 pcs) and power supply transistors (2 pcs) are always removed and cleaned and new compound is used for optimum heat dissipation. The Beolab 5000 is worked on for at least 20 hours and then intensively tested for 4 hours, followed by a quality assurance test of least 500 hours before delivery. In his email to me in May this year Frede said: I have now your Beolab 5000 ready for shipping. Also this time the specifications are really great and the sound is fantastic. He was certainly right. As can be seen from the pictures the Rosewood top is in excellent condition and the front aluminium panels, which are usually badly worn and spoil the appearance, are in perfect condition - having been replaced as part of the restoration. Please remember that the unit is 53 years old and whilst in excellent external condition it has not just left the factory. The pictures I have provided are the highest resolution I can provide, and more can be supplied on request. The internal components have been tested and replaced as necessary by Frede Kristensen. It goes without saying that the Beolab 5000 is a design classic and even if it were just a piece of furniture it would enhance the room. The beauty is the sound is simply superb too. The connections in to the unti are both phono and DIN and include Mic, Phono (turntable), Tuner, Aux, Tape. Of course the inputs can be used for modern devices such as CD, MP3 player or Minidisc - they sound fantastic. There is of course also a line out, which can be used to record from an input eg Vinyl can be recorded to Minidisc. The wealth of connections mean that modern equipment can be easily connected and the sound is exceptional. With 2 x 60W of output the amplifier has ample power to drive all music styles and a remarkable warmth of tone - they simply dont make them like this any more.
