This 2300 is in fine shape, without issue. Cosmetically clean, operationally sound. For sale here is my beloved McIntosh C2300 tube preamplifier. This unit was purchased from Paragon Sight and Sound and has performed flawlessly. The only flaw this unit has is the red standby indicator light is out. Like most of this era the remote is starting to get a little tacky (sticky). It has the commemorative gold package installed on it. This gold package was only available to owners of the C2200 who also had the commemorative gold edition MC2000 power amp in 1998. I suspect a previous owner owned the C2200/MC2000 combo and then upgraded the preamp to the C2300 and just reinstalled the gold package onto it. This makes for kind of a one-of-a-kind C2300 that is really wonderful to look at. In May the output tubes installed are Mazda 12AX7 military 1960 NOS long plates made for La Radiotechnique. The tubes were $250/pr. The C2300 will come complete with factory packaging, box, remote, and power cord. Normally we replace the large power supply caps but this unit saw very little usage and tested as good as new, so we left them in. We replaced all the electrolytic capacitors and trimmer pots for bias & DC balance. The last of these Series II units made around 1980 had a couple improvements over the earlier Series II, so I put Series III in the title just to get your attention. These later units had improved input circuitry and adjustable transistor bias trim pots, so you could dial it right in right in the middle of the range, so that if slight changes happened over the next few decades, it would most likely still be in tolerance. You can easily verify this using an impedance meter (not an ohm meter) Connect your 3 or 4 pair of speakers to your speaker switch box, then connect meter to the amp in connection. Engage all speaker switches, it will not go below 4 ohms. However, even driving 4 ohms at medium to loud volumes requires a beefy amp like this one.
