Very clean McIntosh c15 preamplifier. No problems at all with the pre, everything works and sounds great. No buzz or hum at all. Dead quiet. The factory mm phono stage sounds great as well. It’s nice having a audiophile preamplifier that has loudness and tone controls when needed. CROWN DC-300 SERIES II 2 Ohm Outdoor POWER AMPLIFIER *see note at the bottom- Only about $ 100 more than the other that have no refirb & no warranty - this is a no brainer 30 day return policy if this amp does not work according to spec. Consider it a Budget Replacement for McIntosh mc152. With both units connected to an A/B switch being fed the same CD source going to the same speakers you would have a hard time telling which is which. One thing that you will easily notice is the $ 3000 price difference. Read the many online reviews on this amp or even the original DC-300, you will find nothing but positive. Refurbished & Calibrated by a 30yr Tech with lots of crown experience. Normally we replace the large power supply caps but this unit saw very little usage and tested as good as new, so we left them in. We replaced all the electrolytic capacitors and trimmer pots for bias & DC balance. The last of these Series II units made around 1980 had a couple improvements over the earlier Series II, so I put Series III in the title just to get your attention. These later units had improved input circuitry and adjustable transistor bias trim pots, so you could dial it right in right in the middle of the range, so that if slight changes happened over the next few decades, it would most likely still be in tolerance. Many amps in this power range use a fan, this one does not. Can be ran in 350 WPC mono for BASS applications without the use of a noisy fan as many do. In addition to that, we also upgraded the power cord as shown. The power Amplifier works perfectly. Unit was bench tested for over a week. It was also marketed as a Laboratory Amplifier due to it high accuracy across the entire frequency range. Its no wonder Hi-Fi, Pro Audio, Labs and even the Japanese love this amp. Digital photos of black magnify every spec of dust so rest assured this unit looks fine under normal room lighting. You can easily fill in and paint the mounting holes if desired for an even better appearance. My Tech Ted Chapman did the refirb, here is a recap (no pun intended) 1. Initially, the unit was very clean and did not even require a dust blowout2. No previous work or parts replaced 3. The trim pots replaced were important like any others they do get dirty and can cause problems in the bias circuit4. Only minor blemish is that the physical Input Mode slider on the rear of the unit came off during original unboxing (as shown in the photo). The switch itself is fully functional by using a small tool. Shipped in all original packaging, including interior and exterior boxes and sealed original user manual. It was the combination of power, control and overall coherence that made the McIntosh work so well with seemingly all musical genres… It can be subtle and fleet-of-foot when needed – yet is just at home pounding out deep bass lines, crashing guitar chords or orchestral crescendos.
