The S-125 speakers are tall and thin measuring just over 6 wide with the drivers setup in a line. The front pair of the S-125 speakers are angled slightly inward toward the listener to improve imaging. As with any speaker pair, the angles of the left and right speakers need to be tweaked to optimize the soundstage. The center channel is also angled downward for better on-axis response when placed on top of a rear-screen television. The front baffle of the S-125 is not parallel with the rear of the cabinet, nor is the sides completely parallel. This trapezoidal design helps improve the sonic qualities of the S-125 by preventing sound from bouncing back and forth inside the cabinet. Parallel surfaces tend maximize the slap echo effect, so M&K chose to minimize this with their cabinet design. Other M&K speakers such as the S-85 (used as mains or surrounds) and SS-150THX surrounds use the same drivers as the S-125 to achieve a matched timbre for seamless panning of sound from front to back. The S-125 driver arrangement has two 5-1/4 adjacent woofers with a single tweeter next to them. This is different than the more common DApollito (woofer-tweeter-woofer) configuration frequently seen in the industry. The center channel (S-125C) exhibited detailed and articulate qualities over a very wide listening angle making it ideal for the many seating positions in a home theater environment. M&K claims the Phase-Focused crossover has much to do with this wide listening window. Many speakers Ive listened to have a sweet spot with a lobing effect as the listener is moved off-axis. These speakers had a surprisingly uniform off-axis response. The back of the S-125 has two sets of inputs for selecting either the Normal or Bright Midrange Timbre crossover characteristics. According to M&K, the Normal mode follows their Q-curve response, which is said to have an extremely musical tonal balance. The alternative Bright Midrange Timbre input is a tonal characteristic more suited for absorptive room environments much like what is found in many movie theaters. Our listening environment worked best with the Normal mode, so we used this for the majority of our listening tests. This listing is for a pair of M&K SS-150THX speakers in white. These are incredibly rare in the white color. If you are looking at this, I dont have to describe them much more as you already know M&K speakers are LEGENDARY. Ive been an audiophile my entire life and I dont want to sell these but due to hard times, Im forced to let them go. My brother is actually in the process of buying a whole surround sound for his basement and I tried VERY hard to sell them on these as I would rather prefer to keep them in the family, but he didnt want to have mixed color speakers. I tried to convince him to buy my Triads that I also have listed and he said no. Too bad as these are as good as it gets when it comes to surround sound when watching a movie. I am the 2nd owner of these and any time I bring home new equipment, i METICULOUSLY clean them. I probably spent a solid hour+ cleaning these. Not that they were filthy, but when I say meticulous, i mean it...Ill use my nail to very carefully scrape away and small smidges of dirt build up over the years. Its not as easy as a quick wipe down, at least for me it isnt. When Im done cleaning them , there is literally no dirt on them, even under a magnifying glass lol. I did notice a little dust in the pics, that was from them sitting in my basement, I missed that when I took the pics. As far as the grilles...I used a damp microfiber towel to gently wipe them and couldnt get that black out. I think its from the grille frame...Ive had speakers before that have some black spray from the factory that easily rubs off, I dont know what it is or why they do it, but Ive seen this from multiple speaker companys. It must be some factory spray they put on the grille frames, very annoying as it can be rubbed off. I only used water...there may be specialty cleaning solutions or an upholstery cleaning place you can have them restored back to new. Offered for your consideration is one (1) Miller & Kreisel two-way, three-driver crossover network removed from an M&K S-125C center channel speaker, USA- manufactured c.1996. This M&K crossover divided two 5¼” Peerless mid/bass woofers (8? nominal each) from a 25mm Peerless dome tweeter (4?) at 2kHz. So, please see my large photos, the measurements, and read the remaining description to decide if this outstanding M&K crossover network is correct for your needs. This M&K S-125C crossover is in clean, excellent condition. It features a complement of capacitors, heavily wound copper inductors, and resistors. Plus, the black plastic terminal plate is in great shape with no cracks or scratches and the sturdy binding posts hold speaker cable firmly and can also take banana plugs, pins, etc. And, I’ve bound the woofer and tweeter wires neatly in pairs for the new owner’s convenience upon delivery. Overall, this M&K center channel crossover is exceptionally well-preserved. Most importantly, this S-125C crossover was fully tested before cabinet disassembly and is ready for action. Lastly, the terminal plate measures 7” x 5?” and extends about 2¾” into the cabinet. It requires a 6” x 4” cutout if considering for a speaker-building project. M&K had contracted Denmark’s esteemed Peerless to manufacture this high-quality mid/bass driver. This mid/bass driver is identical to the ones used in the S-125 speakers, aside from the magnetic shielding, and quite possibly the S-85/S-85C single woofer models, but buyer is responsible for verifying its compatibility with their needs. This M&K woofer is in clean, excellent overall condition. The sturdy poly cone and textile voice coil dust cap are both in perfect shape. Plus, the permanent rubber surround is flawless and the magnet bell cover is also perfect. Also, the double-type +/- terminals have never been soldered on the spades and are marked for polarity with a red dot. Overall, this capable woofer looks practically new! Most importantly, I’ve tested it fully and it sounds great—strong and clear with fast, detailed midrange and solid low-end for the platform size. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 6.2?, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating.
