For sale is an early 1930s EMI field coil, mains energized loudspeaker. These loudspeakers were fitted to the most high-end EMI products under the HMV and Marconi brands and were often powered by their Push-Pull PX4 and PX25 amplifiers. I have given this speaker a light clean and it is in beautiful condition for its age. Please study the photos carefully as it is now over 90 years old and of course has age related marks throughout. Including the stand it measures approx 26cm in height. The speaker is in perfect working condition, I have inspected and re-seated the voice coil so there is no rubbing and both the coil and cone are nice and free. The speech coil DC resistance is 10 Ohms. I have isolated the speaker coil from the transformer so that it isnt being driven and overloaded by the speaker coil input source, this can be simply re-soldered if the purchaser wishes to use the transformer. Transformer primary resistance is approx 800 Ohm. A DC supply is required to energize the field coil. It can be powered by a low voltage DC supply like the Rice-Kellogg type loudspeakers of which this follows an almost identical design. For testing I used a 12v supply with a good current output with excellent results but you may wish to experiment to find the optimum voltage for powering the coil. DC resistance of field coil is approx 1.1k Ohm. Overall a very nice and extremely well made, robust moving coil loudspeaker, they dont make them like this anymore! Postage is expensive due to weight, it weighs over 6kg unpackaged and it will be well protected for postage, international purchasers are most welcome. Offers and questions are welcome.
