PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION This is my Yamaha CX-2000 pre-amp that I purchased new in 1989 or 1990. I forget exactly when, but around that time. It has served me extremely well, and I have loved it for these past 35 years. I would still be using it, but I have grown tired of sending it for service. The left channel is out…again. It has been worked on twice for a cracked solder connection, which is a relatively simple repair, but this time, I believe something different is wrong, as wiggling the output RCA jack has no affect. The left side started fading out a few minutes after being turned on, and increasing the volume would bring it back. I though I had it traced to a scratchy balance pot, because that used to bring it reliably back if it ever cut out. It now no longer does, and I lack the knowledge, patience, and equipment to further troubleshoot. There is also no longer a local place I can bring it in for repair, and I don’t want to ship back and forth. I have reason to believe the repair should be a simple one, as this was a gradual decline in the output over time, NOT a poof and done. :) no smoke, nothing burned up. Right side is totally fine, fully working. This has a million ins and outs for various audio and video. I never used the video side. I am assuming that all works, but it has never been used. Yamaha CX2000 preamp (with DAC, phono stage), fully overhauled. I bought this from Japan using Buyee. Note that it is 100V as it was made for the Japanese market only. You will need a suitable transformer (I use one from Airlink). I had it shipped directly to a Yamaha expert to be overhauled. He did the following: 1. Replaced all the electrolytic capacitors with new Nichicon (audio grade where needed). Used film caps where possible (video board included). 2. Repaired cracked solder connections on most of the TO-220 transistors. RCA jacks had a few iffy solder connections as well (repaired). 3. Volume control knob had a broken grubscrew. Was able to extract the broken screw and replace it with a new setscrew (without damaging the knob). 4. Cleaned controls with Deoxit (triple cleaning of loudness control). The bill for new caps (etc) was over $200, and I understand from an email he sent that over 190 caps were replaced. I also had someone strip and veneer the side panels in pimento pepperwood burl. Note that there are some marks on these: see photos. There are also two minor scratches to the top plate near the front of the preamp (see photo). I am selling this as I have quit the vintage amplification phase Ive been going through in recent years. There is no real need to keep this CX2000 now, as I already have an excellent modern preamp (Octave HP 700SE).
