Early woofer. Professionally Rebuilt ( not by me ). Removed from cabinets with Serials 002653 or 002676 I had this professionally rebuilt and it Tests Well. I was going to restore some AR3as but I have too many projects. What you see zip tied on there is the packing protection ring. The rebuilder says they were obviously serviced before... hence the label from Fredericksburg. But that is OLD and these were just rebuilt a few weeks ago. Thats all I know about them. On the dog... wife still not talking to me. So, I sent it to a professional far far away and he rebuilt it after my awful work. That is why it is UGLY BUT... Tests well. Therefore, works as it should but its not going to be pretty. Bid accordingly. The bolts you see on it are for shipping to protect the foam. Nice front wired tweeter from Acoustic Research. The dome is a bit dented in, but it tests strong on the multimeter and functions as it should. Please see photos for closeups and more details. Acoustic Research, Inc. (AR) 1-1/2 Dome, 4-ohm, AR-3a Midrange, #200010-1, Inoperative, for Repair. This AR-3a midrange 1-1/2-inch dome driver is inoperative and not working. This unit was a factory demonstrator for instructional purposes. The voice coil on this AR driver is likely intact, but no specific test has been made because there are no lead-out wires. Also, the domes suspension is not intact. This midrange driver had an inverse half-round suspension to center the dome, and that portion has been removed and would require a similar piece to center the dome. The dome does have the proper fiberglass under the dome and the small pad to go between the screen and the top of the dome for damping. Properly working, this dome midrange driver is one of the finest midrange drivers ever designed. This midrange dome driver, dating from 1968, was designed Roy Allison and Charles McShane of Acoustic Research, to be used in the AR-3a and later the AR-LST. The driver is a 1-1/2-inch butyl-rubber treated linen solf-dome diaphragm and provided extremely uniform, accurate sound reproduction and dispersion within its pass band. The magnet assembly is ferrite and approximately 6 lbs. Note that this tweeter will be shipped with a protective cup covering the dome to prevent shipping damage. Ref. AR-2301890

ACOUSTIC RESEARCH A.R 3a REPLACEMENT SPEAKER GRILLS/WITH ORIGINAL A R-3a LOGOS REFURBISHED.

This is one of the midranges I’m selling from a pair of AR3a Improved speakers. According to what I’ve read, the drivers are the same in the AR3a Improved speakers as in the regular AR3a speakers. The improvement is in the crossovers. To my ears, both this midrange and the other I’m selling sound great, and are equal in sound and volume. Both also seem to be factory replacements. One was perfect, the other had part of the wire screen dented partly in when I bought the speakers. Even though it still seemed to sound fine I pulled that wire screen out so it was no longer pushing in the dome. I don’t remember which it is but I assume it’s the other because the foam on that ones dome is somewhat off-center. I made a video of both these midranges at the same time so no one could say one is bad and I demonstrated the good one twice. I started with the radio’s own speaker for comparison. I haven’t used the AR3a Improved speakers much since refoaming the woofers because I had gotten more into video, and was using a subwoofer and smaller home theater speakers instead. I’m selling this midrange AS IS because it’s old and might not be quite perfect.
