It is in very good condition albeit with scuffs, and marks nicks . Wooden panels are in fairly good condition with some wear as shown. Refer to pics. It has been tested, serviced, calibrated and the heads were cleaned and demagnetized for the best sound ever. The mic inputs were tested and they work as well as the other inputs. The pots and switches were sprayed and the metal parts were lubed as well. Both channels are clear and superb sounding as well. The belts and caps were checked and they’re good. All the functions work and the VU Meters light up and jump like they are supposed to. The sound when recording at 3 3/4 IPS is very clear and better and wider sounding than the Source recording from, depending on the type of tape used and better at 7 1/2 IPS (with speed sleeve) . Akai GX-4000D Reel to Reel 4 track Recorder in very good condition for its age. I bought this new in the eighties in Bruce Millers in Aberdeen. That said, I did work in radio from time to time and used to splice tape on Revox machines. So I’m not entirely unknowledgeable. Secondly - This lot is for; Official/Branded 1 x AKAI GX-4000D Reel to Reel Tape Recorder/Player 2 x MAXELL Reels. 1 with tape and recorded on. 1 x AKAI User Guide 1 x Head Demagnetiser Unbranded 1 x How to service manual 2 x spare belts 1 x spare capstan sleeve 1 x Audi Cable 1 x Power Cable The speakers and amplifier that might be seen in some pictures are NOT included. Thirdly… I can’t stress how immaculate this is. Pristine. MINT. Whatever you want to call it. I have purchased this as part of a large job lot from a very serious audio and video enthusiast who is no longer with us. This machine was purchased new and has been diligently looked after since. I don’t even like using it myself for fear of damaging it. I’ve taken a wealth of pictures for you to inspect the item in extreme close up detail. The top of the unit has a couple of very light scratches. The bottom of the unit has tape/foam feet. The front of the unit, the side of the unit, the back and all parts are in absolutely like new condition. Fourth… I was told the owner regularly had it serviced and that it works perfectly but upon playing it for a few mins I can definitely hear that there is a noise of something needing lubricating. I think this is the left tape spool but I cannot confirm and I do not wish to take the unity apart. Not needs to be done by someone with more time and ideally more expertise than I. Therefore, whilst it plays I would probably advise a service whether that be by a hobbyist or professional. On the other hand, if you’re not worried about the sound of a wheel turning, which is intermittent by the way, it comes and goes, then this is ready to go. Fifth… It’s super heavy. I am going to have to pack it the best I can and that will take me a little time to source the right boxes. This is larger and heavier than what I’m used to. Whenever I ship prestigious / heavy / valuable items like this I usually use a courier that picks it up form my door and drops it off at your door. The last item I shipped in this way was an Ensonique Synthesiser in a flight case, it weighed about 35KG and cost about £35. Therefore I will go halves on this. There will be an additional £17.50 towards shipping on top of the item price. Please let me know your postcode so I can get an exact quote. Sixth… The Maxell tape is recorded on, some band but there is a wonderful selection of old late 80’s UK rave/electro. I don’t know if this is a master of a mix, a recording of a mix or what. I’d highly encourage checking it out properly. It might be if some worth. Seventh… Lucky for some! I want to ensure whoever purchases this is happy with the item, the service and the price. Equally, I don’t want to risk losing out on a load of money myself so I will be pricing this at £499 which I think is extremely reasonable, fair and a bargain for the right person. This is due to the fact that it’s absolutely immaculate and comes with everything that’s needed to service the item (excluding some oil/grease). However, it probably does need a little work to really have it playing as immaculately as it looks. If it doesn’t sell in a few days I’ll drop the price a little until it does sell. The old VU meter bulbs have been upgraded with brand new Ice Blue LEDs giving it a new and unique modern lease of life, while still maintaining its original vintage characteristics. good heads, mechanism in perfect order, meter’s working, cosmetically nice, but after an accident with a screwdriver the take up reel is grinding / dragging with a small chunk out of it and it does not work. I know people say ‘east fix’ on eBay and nothing is too easy with these, but the problem is an isolated one… and the parts are good… my stupidity can be your gain!

Verkaufe meine Akai gx 4000d. Sie ist eigentlich voll funktionstchtig aber da sie schon lter ist und z.B. die Regler fr die Aufnahme mal nicht so Topp sich drehen lassen, Verkaufe ich Sie als Defekt. Funktioniert aber eigentlich alles. Auch der Aufsatz zur schnelleren Geschwindigkeit liegt bei.
