AKAI GX-77 is a great machine. It has a great look, compact size and includes some interesting features such as auto-reverse function, manual biasing plus it uses the well known GX heads. But there is a known issue with this machine related with the tape transport system, known as the slow fast-forward and fast-rewind issue. There are several posts on the internet about this. Most of the posts placed in related foruns are innacurate or even totally wrong. So, knowing that there are many people in the world that, love their GX-77 and have this same problem, we developed a mod kit that can be installed by anyone. Installation is very simple and for doing it you dont need to be an expert in electronics! However, you do need to have basic skills about using a simple soldering iron and a couple of tools to cut some wires and join a few other and deal with some screws! Really, thats only it! For the installation of this mod, you will be given a detailed tutorial with step-by-step explanation about what to do, including all necessary (but very basic) schematics just to let you understand what you will be doing. You will get a fabric version dual layer PCB, with high quality components, manually assembled, tested and fully certified on LAB before shipping. Akai GXC-75D Stereo Cassette Deck (Boxed) Vintage Collectors Item-Needs Service. Vintage Akai Cassette deck in impressive condition. First produced around 1974 - 75, it must have been one of the first decks to have auto-reverse tape playback. Two heads, mechanical 3 digit tape counter, Dolby, manual tape type selection and capable of handling normal and chrome tapes, it boasts an impressive specification for its time. With its original box, some paperwork and some fuses. Its unlikely youll ever find such a complete package. Now the condition. Being sold as spares or repairs with the following observations:Powers up fine, mechanical VU meters move, a panel of lights indicating mode etc all work too.However, there are some playback and wind/rewind problems which might be related to new belts being required - it can do with a service or repair as its been in storage for a long time. The tape counter also doesnt move when playing a tape, again, possibly a belt issue. Also, some veneer is missing from the right hand side of the front fascia. It will play music however, but is stops after a few seconds, and the output is weak on one side (head clean perhaps?) Further Details:Typical of this deck is the 70s top loading layout with the cassette compartiment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well.Level meters used on the GXC-75D are analogue needle VU reading meters. Mechanical transport controls for reliable GXC-75D transport function selection. The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the GXC-75D by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies. Vintage AKAI GXC-38 Cassette Stereo Tape Recorder in good working condition.. This is the GXC-38 ( not the GXC-38D), which is the model that includes an on board amplifier so that speakers can be plugged in the back and playback can be heard without any other equipment with the volume being adjusted by the extra sliders on the top panel. You will notice that some of the lettering on the top panel has come off with age. Im sure this could be replaced.The speakers are connected using 1/4 jack plugs and the sockets can be seen in the picture. This comes in its original box with the correct acrylic cover. The cover has a small crack on the rear face so this could do with some acrylic glue. Otherwise its in scratch free condition. Ive had this a few years and also have GXC-46 models so this is why Im letting this one go. Since it hasnt been used for some time it would benefit from a service but all the lights work, the spindles go round in play and fast or reverse. It has the potential of being a fantastic bit of vintage HIfI kit. Its around 10kg so postage will be quite pricey so Im estimating £15 to cover the protective wrapping etc..
