The Nova150 was an even better match with my Magnepan .7 flat panel speakers. The .7s crave power, and the Nova150 delivered gobs of it. Bass definition and oomph were truly exceptional, better than Ive heard from the .7s mated with other integrated amps. ...maxes out on bang-for-buck like no other model before it. Whats really interesting is how the nova150 feels more powerful in use than another super integrated... That brings us to (for me) the nova150s killer feature: Peachtrees Dy-NEC USB A input is for digitally siphoning ones and zeroes from suitably equipped smartphones and tablets... We eliminate it before the DAC even sees it!The Tube Preamplifier The preamplifier is one of the most important components in any system and often determines the way your system sounds overall. Oh yes!Home Theater Bypass and Digital Filter The Novas third analog input doubles as a “Home Theater Bypass” so you can have the best of home theater and two-channel in the same system. Simply take the left and right “pre out” from your receiver or processor and connect to the “Home Theater” bypass on the Nova. A selector switch on the back panel converts from Aux to HT bypass. In this application your receiver transparently uses the L&R amplifier section of the Nova. This leaves the receiver responsible only for pushing the center and rear speakers, making the receiver much more efficient and less taxed. And when you listen to a two-channel source plugged directly into the Nova, there’s a straight line from the source to the Nova to the speakers . . . no processing, no running the signal through a forest of circuitry. This leaves little between the music and your ears. If you’re a two-channel fan, it’s the way to do theater right!Digital Filter The Novas switchable digital filter lets you tailor your system and your recordings to your taste. Although the Sharp setting measures better, many listeners prefer the sound of the Slow setting, and we recommend it. Home Theater Bypass (HTB) This is one of our most requested features. HTB allows for easy integration with a multi-channel preamp/processor or audio/video receiver (AVR) so that the power amplifier in the nova300 drives the front left and right speakers for stereo and multi-channel listening. The nova300 amplifier section is likely more powerful and better sounding than any AVR available today - and relieving the AVR from driving the front left and right speakers makes it MUCH easier for the AVR to drive the center and surround speakers. When listening to stereo music the nova300 becomes your control center, and you can enjoy the full benefit of its reference DAC and ultra-low-noise circuitry. If the HTB input isnt needed it can be configured as a standard analog line-level input. Getting LOOP-y The nova300 includes an extremely useful LOOP (output/input) feature, allowing you to add an external equalizer or other processor into the signal path. The LOOP button on the remote control engages and disengages the loop audio path utilizing high-performance relays. Do you want to experiment with room correction? No problem. Wire your room EQ component into the nova300 and use the LOOP button on the remote control to easily A-B between correction in/correction out. Volume Control Bypass The nova300 provides a Volume Control Bypass feature on its digital inputs which puts the nova300 into a power amp mode. This is useful if you have a connected source with its own volume control. Have a favorite device or app with a volume slider built right into the interface? Simply bypass the nova300 volume control for that input and use the app slider instead. Optical, Coax and USB Inputs The nova300 offers a standard suite of digital audio inputs, including asynchronous USB for a computer. In addition, there is one coaxial S/PDIF input and two optical inputs that accommodate signals up to 24-Bit/192kHz, assuming the connected device can output those signals. If it cant, no worries; use your computer instead to output your high-res files to the nova300s asynchronous USB input. Discrete Headphone Amp Headphone fans will love the headphone amplifier in the nova300. It is a fully-discrete power amplifier circuit (not a chip) that is designed for sheer musicality and an ultra-low noise floor. When you plug headphones in, the speakers and preamp outputs are automatically muted and the volume knob becomes a dedicated headphone volume controller. Unplug the headphones, and the system reverts back to being an integrated amplifier. Note: The nova300s headphone amplifier is specifically designed to drive headphones with impedance ratings in the 50-300 ohm range. It was not designed to support headphones with an impedance below 50 ohms. 600 ohm headphones will lower the output capability significantly.
