Used CAYIN N5ii (MK 2) MP3 / Hi-Res DAP + DAC, complete with 2 x San Disk 64MB Micro SD Cards - boxed (mint condition) with silicon case + user guide and USB C cable. Purchased in April 2019 from Advanced MP3 for £299. It has NEVER being used outside of (smoke and pet free) home, and never with dirty or oily hands. The original plastic protective film is still present on the rear panel of the unit... HOWEVER, The Cayin N5 mk2 had an inherent design fault from the outset that affected many units sold until they fixed the problem in the last run special edition (N5iiS) variants. The N5 mk2 has two totally independent headphone outputs - a 3.5mm unbalanced, and a 2.5mm balanced. The design fault was that the 2.5mm balanced output has an intermittent left channel audio dropout when the headphone jack has physical pressure applied on it. This is because the embedded 2.5 headphone jack connection breaks / splits from the circuit board due to dry solder or a stress crack. My player has developed this fault too unfortunately. If sitting on a sofa for instance and not moving (the headphone cable) about too much then the audio signal is fine, and you wont experience the left channel audio drop. But if you do move the headphone cable a lot in the 2.5 balanced you will most likely get the problem occurring. >> The 3.5mm headphone is perfectly fine and isnt affected at all by this issue, and music sounds fantastic on the 3.5 output, although the 2.5 does have a slightly better quality signal to noise ratio, and a louder amplitude level available - it can drive headphones or IEMs easier. This design fault as mentioned was fixed in the N5iiS model, and it is possible that the same fix can be applied to the original N5ii - I have spoken to Cayin customer services and discussed the matter. Please see the last three pictures (#18 / 19 / 20) to see those communications and their customer services rep admitting to the design fault on a forum TOGETHER with a picture with serial numbers and details of the exact replacement 2.5mm jack part used by Cayin in the N5iiS to fix the problem. As per the discussion with Cayin the player MAY be able to be fixed, but it CANT be guaranteed depending on how bad the split on the circuit board is. If you are handy with a soldering iron, or know someone who is or have a local electronics repair shop this could be a cheap fix - a couple of quid for the new 2.5 jack part and some labour. But as it cant be guaranteed to be repaired I have priced the player to take this into account. They normally sell for £150+ second hand on Ebay, but that would be unfair, so including £40 of SanDisk Micro SD cards I have set the start price to take into account the price with the fault and allow for someone to try and repair the 2.5 output if they wish too. Otherwise it is still fantastic player, and a bargain with just the 3.5 output! Cayin do appear to still be willing to fix the units, but it has import costs and a flat fee for the repair + the shipping cost to China which makes that option quite expensive (see picure #19 for Cayin customer service details). If it can be fixed cheaply then your gain is my loss, and that is the way it should be. I have no soldering skills, or any local electronics shops nearby, and as all my headphones are 2.5mm jack equipped, and I purchased another player. This Cayin N5ii has been in storage since then, and although originally I was going to try to have it repaired I have now decided to sell the player. It is a wonderful sounding player on either headphone output, and was rightly highly recommended for its functionality and sound quality by most on the audio forums / and internet reviews (like Headfonia / Head-Fi and Headfonics). Notes: - Picture #2 shows the unit with both SD card slots filled with the San Disc 64GB cards included in the sale. Slot #1 says only 527 MB spare space, but this was to show the unit with music playback as per picture #1 so I left music on this SD card - it will of course be formatted clean for the sale. - The player can be used as an external DAC for sound playback from a computer (drivers on the Cayin website), however I would not recommend using it as a soundcard for playing PC games on - the Android operating system seems to take a few milliseconds to process the computer input, so this creates an unacceptable lag on video games / movies and TV. Its fine for music playback from a computer though where any audio is not synced to visuals... Postage will be by Royal Mail registered & tracked service. Thanks for looking.
