Offered here is BOTH the Esoteric P-05 player and its companion DAC, the Esoteric D-05. Purchased new by me. I am moving away from physical CD media and no longer have the need for these pieces. Both are in immaculate condition and work absolutely perfectly. The P-05 plays SACD, CD, CD-R and CD-RW. This model uses Esoterics VRDS-NEO model VMK-5, (New-Vibration free Rigid Disc clamping System), combines two ESOTERIC proprietary technologies; the turntable disc clamping system and the unique VOSP (Vertically aligned Optical Stability Platform). The turntable securely clamps the disc and effectively reduces unwanted swing or vibration of the disc. This new turntable is precisely machined from solid aluminum helping to minimize rotational inertia. This extra light turntable design also ensures optimal performance as required for high-speed disc rotation. In combination with this turntable system, the VOSP mechanism provides extremely accurate data retrieval by positioning the laser optical axis at the very center of the data track. This design eliminates off axis tracking and off axis error correction. The D-05 is the world’s first D/A converter incorporating the “AK4397” Delta-Sigma DAC device from AKM Semiconductor, Inc. This device has full 32-bit processing capability. The “AK4397” was designed combining newly developed high speed / high-capacity digital processing components and improved analog processing components. Esoteric audio is a spinoff company of the Japanese owned TEAC Corporation. The Esoteric corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility began in the United States in 1987. Esoteric engineers made the best value cables in the world. The President of Esoteric Audio wrote a letter to the editors of Stereophile magazine in the late eighties/early 90s ripping them for promoting high end, overpriced audio cables. He explained what many people always suspected; audio cables can only improve performance to a finite degree and expensive cables were a money grab. He claimed the most any cable should cost is fifty bucks. I do remember at that time they were the only remaining American cable manufacturer and I became a happy customer. Today Esoteric no longer manufactures cable but they do manufacture high end audio gear. This listing is for 5 3 first generation Musica cables from 1990 with no numeric identifying model number like later models. Later Musica cables have numbers (100/200 etc) signifying different quality levels, but the first generation Musica cables were just one high end product They are 18 gauge double shielded with multiple stranded center conductor, super flexible air cellular foam dielelectric, cell poly foam skin, a split center pin, and 24K gold plated brass connectors with fanned inputs. They are the only cables I trust not to rip the inputs out of the back of a Carver TFM amplifier and you folks who have owned one know what I am talking about. There is no better cable available near the price point of first generation Esoteric audio cables.
