Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintage FISHER 12 inch woofer removed from my FISHER ST-500 three-way speakers. As per the date code stamped on the magnet’s edge, this woofer was manufactured on August 18, 1972.As you may know, FISHER purchased their drivers from two main sources back then, Gefco (EIA source code 1056, always stamped in red) and United Speaker Systems (USS) of New Jersey which was not an EIA member. This woofer was manufactured for FISHER by USS, a family company still in operation today making Phase Tech speakers. Please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable FISHER bass driver is correct for your needs. This FISHER 12” woofer is in clean, very good condition. It has a sturdy textured paper cone that is structurally sound with no holes or cracks and the large textile voice coil dustcap has never been harmed. Plus, the black-enameled steel basket has no dents or scratches, just a hint of surface rust in spots. Most importantly, the aged original polyurethane foam suspension was just replaced with a quality polyether surround that has the correct “flat-attach” profile. The main drawback to most U.S. and foreign-made speakers from the early 1970’s to mid 1990’s was the use of foam for the woofer surrounds. Though foam offers excellent cone excursion, it invariably rots and/or disintegrates in 12-20 years no matter what climate you live in. This woofer was no exception—the surround had fallen apart years ago. Some of you have replaced woofer surrounds before, so you know that it’s a time-consuming process that takes a great deal of patience and a steady hand. This woofer had no flange gasket, so I first cleaned the cone edges/basket flange carefully to remove the old gummy foam and stubborn factory adhesives, which took some time to do thoroughly, then glued the inner surround to the cone. It should be noted that the original factory surround installation leaked some glue on the woofer’s edge, leaving several unavoidable marks on the cone when I removed it, as pictured. Next, I glued the outer surround to the basket flange after careful centering to ensure no voice coil rub. Overnight drying of the glue was allowed for each step of the process to achieve the clean and perfect results you see here. Now this woofer is in great shape once again—perhaps even better than new with the improved polyether foam surround of today. Most importantly, this woofer has been fully tested after the new surround was installed and sounds terrific—very strong and clear with detailed lower midrange and solid low-end response. I also tested its DC resistance at 6.1?, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. And the basket flange measures 12” diameter, it stands 5” tall, and the eight mounting holes are each spaced 4?” apart, c-t-c.As pictured and described, this FISHER 12” woofer with painstakingly refurbished surround is offered at a competitive price. For sale is a vintage, the legendary FISHER 500C Tube FM Stereo Receiver with Phono Stage First off, there were no 12AX7 tubes and output tubes on the receiver when I acquired it. I had to borrow 12AX7 (8 of them) and 7591(4 of them) tubes for testing. Again, no 12ax7 or 7591 tubes. All other tubes are present, and they are all vintage tubes. With all tubes installed. I plugged in a variac at 80V, just to make sure I didnt damage the receiver. The 500C produced music both channels fine when I fed music into AUX. There was cracking noise as I adjusted volume etc. Watch the video of the 500C in operation. So, the receiver works fine in that level but pots need services (cleaning or replacement). I switched to FM but the meters didnt show anything. No signal. No output to the speakers either. Only cracking noise sometimes. I dont know the reason. So, I am selling this 500C in above described condition. Please bid accordingly. At the same time, the new owner needs to bring this to be serviced by a professional before plugging in 120V. I am not liable for any damage if the buyer ignores this warning and decides to use 120V no matter what. And that damage can not be used as the reason for return. Physical condition is good for the age, as you can see in the pictures (study the pictures is a must). The front is pretty nice; no bent corners. The upper right corner has some scotch tape on it. Some center cap on the knobs are missing. Overall is nice. Chassis has dust. I cleaned two spots by hand and the results were quite encouraging: the chassis is actually quite clean under the dust. Bottom plate is present but no feet. Ill pack well and ship worldwide. Super heavy to do overseas though.
