KENWOOD DP-711 CD PLAYER FAULTY SPARES REPAIRS STICKY DEGRADED SOFT TOUCH FINISH Some CDs wont play, others skip and jump, faulty. Sticky finish. See photos and description. I tried a few CDs in this. Some wouldnt load at all. Others found the tracks but wouldnt play them. Others played, but some would get stuck and play the same bit over and over. All took a long while to lock in and start playing, if they managed to do so at all. Kenwood also unfortunately finished this unit with soft touch rubberised paint. This decomposes over time to become sticky and nasty. It can be removed easily by wiping with a cloth soaked in methylated spirits, and allowing the paint to soften a little then wipe it off, repeat as required until you get bare smooth plastic. But this will also remove all the lettering and button labels. The larger buttons are especially sticky, and may leave black marks on the fingers. This is an exceptional example of this popular midi-sized (36cm wide x 34cm deep) CD player from Kenwood. The DP-730 is towards the higher end of the range and has an excellent feature set, all of which is accessible from the front panel controls. It is fully working, tested and serviced this week - all belts checked and cleaned/replaced where needed, and the laser & electronics aligned for optimal performance. It has also had a replacement brand new laser fitted. Lasers have a finite lifetime and the units many classic players like these will be nearing the end of theirs, so this is an important upgrade and should give many years of reliable service without further intervention. It has been inspected for electrical safety and put through a full PAT test, in line with current guidance. Cosmetically, this deck is in excellent condition. There are some minor signs of use. Including a few light surface scuffs, but nothing that takes away from the fantastic looks of this classic machine. Overall, it is a credit to its previous owner, who has clearly looked after it well. Please take a close look at the pictures. This player has the brilliant Burr-Brown PCM56P digital-to-analogue converter in dual configuration. These ADCs were seen as some of the very best from the era and still have a strong following today. They were used in various high-end decks from manufacturers like Denon and Yamaha and to my ears sound far superior to the bitstream converters that became popular in subsequent generations of CD players.
