This is a vintage Lafayette HA-52A FM Communications Receiver, circa 1960s. This is a 8-tube radio which covers the FM frequencies 152-174Mhz. Has an integrated speaker, headphone jack for 8 ohms, and screw terminals for antenna on rear. As far as I can tell it is all original. Manuals are still freely available online, including schematics and alignment procedure. As an experiment, I temporarily adjusted the two variable cap trimmers so that I could listen to my local 2M weekly net at 146.85. It has now been returned to its original alignment, but of course you could play with the alignment yourself if you want. This unit appears to work well. There isnt much in my area for it to receive, but I can receive the NOAA weather station for my area clearly at 162.475 with just my finger on the antenna terminal. There is no appreciable power supply hum, and everything seems to work as intended. Pretty good condition cosmetically as well (even the feet), though as you can see in the photo there are a few rust-looking stains on the side and elsewhere.

I got this at an estate sale, I turned it on with a variac voltage regulator and went up to 70 volts and 2 tubes were glowing too much so I turned it down. No further testing was done. On the bottom of the unit appears that someone has worked on it in the past. Therefore this unit is being sold as described for Parts or Repair. Transformer operated and single conversion, it is similar to the Trio (Kenwood) 9R-59. The bandspread is marked for 80 to 10 meter ham bands. A similar kit version was sold by Lafayette as model KT-320. AC power is switchable between 117 volts and 100 volts. Nine tubes including rectifier. Has one RF amplifier stage and two IF stages. A review can be found in QST magazine, November 1961. It measures 15 L x 10 W x 7 H , 20lbs. The item has been tested and is in functioning working condition.

Transformer operated and single conversion, it is similar to the Trio (Kenwood) 9R-59. The bandspread is marked for 80 to 10 meter ham bands. A similar kit version was sold by Lafayette as model KT-320. AC power is switchable between 117 volts and 100 volts. Nine tubes including rectifier. Has one RF amplifier stage and two IF stages. A review can be found in QST magazine, November 1961. It measures 15 L x 10 W x 7 H , 20lbs. The item has been tested and is in functioning working condition.
