And with only one exception (the newer, subsequent, and now out of production BDP-205) it probably still is. Particularly with the unique and separately acquired firmware upgrade this one has. This player has custom jailbreak firmware, stored on a USB drive which is plugged into the back of the unit, which allows it do many things a standard version of this unit will not! Most Importantly: 1) It can play Blu-ray and DVD discs from ANY Region in the world. For example it can play Region B encoded discs which are intended only for playback in England and Europe! This allows you to purchase and playback movie titles that are unavailable here in the United States. 2) It can play back ISO files either from portable media (via USB) or from a network source (via SMB).
