Built in the USA and like a TANK. Its Lizzo size!! Rogue Audio is awesome because founder and operator Mark OBrian supports his customers. They are know for building very strong, powerful and reliable products. Not to mention they will overhaul any of their previous models (for a modest fee) to the upgraded units. They just do things different which is why the company name is so fitting. Ive owned many of their products from the RP-5, Sphynx, Ares II Magnum, Cronus magnum 2 & 3 and the 99 Super Magnum Pre-amp. They have all been fantastic and built to very high standards. From a fit and finish perspective they are robust but not Luxman, McIntosh or Esoteric level. They remind me of 90s to 2008 Classe Audio. Its meant to get the job done but still be aesthetically pleasing. Stock tube sound is good. Upgraded tubes is much better. Stock sound is clean, not colored, very linear and accurate. It absolutely has solid state sound qualities to it. Similar to a Rega Elicit, or Yamaha A-S2100. With upgraded tubes it was more inline if you were to blend a Sugden A21 with an Audio Research I/50. There ends up being more spacious sound stage with out the sacrifice of sloppiness found in some over seas units. There is very little coloring the the music when swapping tubes. Out of the many tube amps ive owned this unit holds on tight to its core values. Each time a tube was swapped you get a very slight pinch of flavor. Other tube amps will change dramatically to a point where its easy to loose touch on where you started. Phono stage is excellent. Keep in mind its a MM only phono input. That is the one thing Rogue changed on the CM3. After owning both CM2 and CM3 i can say they are very similar and the CM3 didnt provide me any extra musical expression to warrant the extra money. I sold the CM3 and bought a dedicated phono stage and upgraded cartridge which both made huge impacts to the sound and kept the CM2. Even the plastic remote in my opinion is better. After owning the CM3 i found the aluminum remote to be a gimmick. Rogue made this change because users complained about the plastic feeling cheap. But the plastic unit is lighter and doesnt make noise when clicking the buttons. Wonderful pair of Rogue Audio M180s with the proper KT120 tubes and everything you need to keep them clean and adjusted. These are very neutral as tube amps go and have enough power for nearly all speakers. These were used in my personal listening room for several years, except for summer months when tiny room would get too warm. Sadly, Ive dismantled my listening room to make a bedroom for family, and have some medical issues to deal with, so these have to go. I purchased the shipping boxes materials ($250) from Rogue Audio. You wont find better customer service. I bought these used and had to replace two fuses and both LEDs and their lenses. Since then they have been trouble-free. The bias is very stable and only needs to be checked every few months. Its easy to do: warm up amps, remove access plates (thumb screws are captive), flip one switch at a time, read meter, adjust with tool if needed, and move to the next always remembering to turn each switch off after adjusting. I have recently checked the power tubes with a nice Hickok tester, which while not listing the KT120, was able to verify very similar megohm readings for each. I replaced the input tubes to have matched Gold Lion tubes there. The amps dont seem to require a long warm up period. They are very heavy so shipping will probably be expensive. Ive added a handling charge to cover signature and insurance. Im not sure how the insurance will work out with one item shipped in two packages. -- well see. Local pickup is encouraged. Rogue Audio Tempest 3 (III) Integrated Tube Amplifier w/Remote,Manual for Repair as pictured. The unit came to me in its present condition. The unit powers up and the remote controls the volume potentiometer without issue. There are no tubes present. Also, it looks as though there is a capacitor missing on the control board (front-most board) and another that looks like it has been soldered from the top. The power and boost buttons frequently get stuck in their inmost position and require some wiggling or additional presses to release. One of the binding posts is broken off. No further testing done. Sold as-is for parts or repair. Cosmetically the unit presents well but has a few noticeable blemishes(see bottom face. Highlighted in photos.). See photos. The unit comes in its original box with original manual and remote. The remote is in excellent condition with light signs of use.
