Sansui AU-D11 Integrated Amplifier For sale is the Sansui AU-D11. The amplifier has been serviced, partially recapped and fully tested. The changes/upgrades are listed below. SEE PHOTOS for imperfections that could not be remedied. THIS AMPLIFIER HAS BEEN FULLY TESTED FOR OVER 3 MONTHS WITH NO PROBLEMS. From a period review: On the test bench, the Sansui AU-D11 proved to be everything its manufacturer claimed. It is an extremely low-distortion, wide-band, low-noise, stable amplifier with almost all the control functions that might be desired by a serious audiophile. In our view, the excellent tone controls, flexible input and tape-recording facilities, and built-in MC head amplifier more than compensate for the amplifier’s ineffective filters. The absence of separate preamplifier outputs and power-amplifier inputs did not disturb us, since it is perfectly possible to use the AU-D11 as a power amplifier alone by driving its aux inputs with the tone controls bypassed. The AU-D11 has no loudness control, but its tone controls can do a far more effective job of correcting for hearing changes at low volume levels than any conventional “loudness control.” One might legitimately wonder why this amplifier carries such a high price tag, and taking off the handsome wooden cabinet provides at least some of the answers. It is a far cry from some of the starkly “basic” amplifiers we have seen and from the thrown-together look of some low-price products. It has an impressive number of components, with no evidence of skimping anywhere, and its internal construction would do credit to the most respected “high-end” manufacturer’s standards. All the metal surfaces are copper plated. The massive power supply occupies most of the center of the amplifier, and we counted more than 65,000 microfarads of filter capacitance in its power supply (far above the average for amplifiers of this power rating). Furthermore, the “wiring” between the filter capacitors and from them to the rectifiers is not wire at all: these connections are made with “U”-shaped metal channels, no doubt in the interest of achieving minimum power-supply impedance. To assess the Sansui AU-D11 properly, one should think of it as a state-of-the-art amplifier built for the most discriminating audiophile, rather than just another high-price product from a large Japanese manufacturer. Assuming that its power is adequate for the intended use and that no serious objections are raised to any of its control features (or lack thereof), we believe that there is no better amplifier to be had today. Naturally it sounds as good as amplifier can sound. This flagship of the Sansui line is an amplifier whose performance, combined with full protection for itself and the speakers, may possibly be equaled (though not cheaply) but is not likely to be surpassed. If something better came along we doubt that it could be measured with today’s instruments, since ours were operating at or beyond their design limits during our tests of the AU-D11. This is a rare Sansui AU-D907 Limited, which is a special limited edition of the AU-919 (Sansui exported the regular version of the AU-D907 as the AU-919.) This Limited model takes the AU-919 and pushes it to the next level of craftsmanship, with improved performance and sound quality. Sansui’s goal when creating this model was to unleash every ounce of potential from the AU-919’s original design. Upgrades include a wood cover (reducing magnetic interference), enhanced version of the Diamond Differential circuit, a pure copper over solid brass chassis, bronze baseplate for the power supply (transformers and main filter capacitors), and upgraded outputs and driver transistors compared to the AU-919. More details below: In order to achieve maximum performance, we have changed the cases of the pure oval and coupling capacitors from aluminum to resin cases (reduces interference), and have also adopted fast recovery diodes for all rectifier diodes. To further enhance the effect of the pure oval capacitors, a 1.2 mm thick brass plate is used for the chassis of the power supply section, which is advantageous in terms of sound quality and interference minimization. Non-ferrous linear high-speed element LAPT (Linear Amp. Power Transistors) are used in two parallel connections, further improving the diamond differential circuit. The LAPT is made of pure copper. By making the bonding wires nonmagnetic, the generation of magnetic distortion is eliminated. This greatly improves the cut-off frequency and broadens the band, while improving the linearity of current amplification factor and switching characteristics. This enables a high response speed of ± 300 through rate of ± V / ? sec and suppresses the occurrence of TIM distortion to nearly 0! The power supply section has been strengthened to create even faster high-speed response. In the power supply system, a complimentary service push-pull (shunt) regulated circuit has been newly adopted in place of the conventional constant voltage circuit. This circuit guarantees a stable voltage supply not only when the voltage drops but also when the voltage rises, enabling more stable power supply. A large toroidal transformer and a large EI transformer are used for the power transformer, and a power cord with a current capacity of 15A for 200W amplifier class is used for the power cord. If you’re a fan of vinyl, prepare to be impressed. The AU-D907 Limited’s Diamond Differential DC circuit in the power amp and phono equalizer offers one of the widest frequency ranges ever achieved in audio - extending from zero Hz (DC) to an amazing supersonic high of 500,000Hz! As you can see in the pictures, it is in VERY good condition. There are a few little scuffs, nicks in the wood cover, etc, but nothing at all substantial. It sounds AMAZING, and the controls work crisply and cleanly. I’ve not had a chance to polish it up, but I will do so before shipping. I will package this to the point of over-protection (see my feedback rec’d as a seller) to ensure it arrives safely.
