Here is a SONY CDP-x77es CD player from the golden age of Sony high-end CD players. This unit weighs north of 40 lbs and is built like a tank. It is in excellent cosmetic condition for a unit that is 30 years old. Some discoloration on the top plate (which may be cleanable?) and a small chip to the paint on the front plate where it meets the top plate which may also be touched up somehow with paint (see picture). Other than this it is near mint. The side panels are excellent (these are usually very banged up). So this unit DOES power up (see pictures) and all buttons and lights DO work. However, it will not boot up a CD disc and thus can not play a disc. Therefore there are two options: Tear it apart for parts....the front panel is worth $100, the side panels are worth $100 as a pair, and we have not even gotten into the INNER parts and electronics. There are at least $500 of parts here for the person that wants them, needs them or is willing to part it out. Second option is fixing it. It most likely requires a new laser and installation, and nothing more. This part is available these days and I got an estimate of $275 for the part and installation from my local shop. You may get a higher or lower estimate depending upon your location. With the $275 invested and my unit at the $299 asking price shipped....you would have $575 into the unit. Then add: almost any Sony remote from this era from Ebay for another $50 and since it is a Japanese model that runs at 100V buy a transformer that is available on Amazon for $40. So with $665 all in you would have a unit would be worth $800-$1000 in operational condition. So it would be a good investment. Sale to 48 states only. Payment via Paypal only. Scratch could probably be minimized with a brown Sharpie pen. They have been in a non-smoking home since they were new. They measure 4-1/4 X 14-3/4 and the holes are 11 apart.
