Lespulsione del nastro viene azionata meccanicamente e la cassetta deve essere posizionata con il lato da riprodurre rivolto in avanti nellalloggiamento della cassetta. I misuratori di livello utilizzati sul V-900X sono misuratori di lettura di picco digitali generici con mantenimento del picco per una facile regolazione del livello di registrazione ottimale. I controlli di trasporto a logica completa utilizzati sul V-900X consentono di rispondere al minimo contatto delle dita per una selezione rapida e senza sforzo della funzione di trasporto. Per garantire la migliore risposta dallampia varietà di nastri disponibili, è possibile eseguire regolazioni, polarizzazione, equalizzazione e sensibilità a livelli ottimali prima della registrazione. Il tipo Dolby C utilizzato nel V-900X fornisce 20 dB di riduzione del rumore sopra circa 1.000 Hz, raddoppiando completamente la quantità data dal tipo B. Dbx Type II trovato nel V-900X è una versione semplificata del sistema di riduzione del rumore Type I. Il sistema dbx Type II è stato progettato per essere utilizzato con sistemi con larghezza di banda limitata come i registratori basati su cassette e utilizza anche un semplice compander 2:1:2 per ridurre il rumore. Il segnale pilota multiplex a 19kHz presente nelle trasmissioni stereo FM può causare false attivazioni del sistema di riduzione del rumore.
