One thing VPI didnt tell you about your particular Aries 1 is that in place of the stock platter that came with the table, yours has the platter from the VPI TNT 5.The Aries had a real good platter: 1.25; thick, comprised of a 7/8 thick bottom section made of aluminum (onto which was bonded a thin sheet of lead, covered in cork), with a 3/8 thick top layer of Delrin. The same platter came on the TNT 3 and 4.The TNT 5 has a great one: 1.5; thick, the bottom section 5/8 thick stainless steel (no lead sheet), with a 7/8 thick top Delrin layer. Thats the platter you have, and its the one most VPI aficionados consider the best platter VPI has ever made. Congratulations, it (and the Aries table) is a beauty!
