Im selling my complete video transfer system. Ive used the system extensively for tape transfers and a few SD Sky box transfers. The entire signal path is S-VHS/S-video quality even when transferring VHS, so there is minimal signal degradation. The system consists of a good quality S-VHS VCR, a Panasonic AG-TB700 Time Base Corrector, an S-video/composite USB video digitiser and assorted accessories and cables. Its all working well, though I havent tested any functions that you wouldnt need for tape transfers. TBC === The Panasonic time base corrector is professional studio/edit suite equipment. Its very scruffy externally, which is typical of ex-studio/edit suite rack-mount equipment. Ive included internal photos of the AG-TB700 to demonstrate that its clean and tidy inside with no leaking/bulging capacitors, heat damage or other obvious problems. The Time Base Corrector is great for transferring old VHS or camcorder tapes to computer because as well as cleaning up wavy verticals and jitter, it also helps prevent video capture software wrongly interpreting crinkly-tape video drop-outs as Macrovision anti-copy protection, so transfers arent interrupted. Its a professional unit (studio/edit suite), so the quality is very high. It has both composite (BNC) and S-video (DIN) input and output connectors. Its a 1U rackmount unit but it now has stick-on rubber feet to protect your desktop. Judging from the idents on the PCBs, it was actually built for Panasonicby For-A, presumably to complement Panasonics professional video recorders (For-A heritage is A Good Thing). Ive changed the cooling fans to quieter ones (it was really noisy) but Ill include the old fans in case you want to return it to original condition. The dimensions are; Width 43cm / 17 Height 4.5cm / 1.75 Depth 45cm / 17.75 excluding rear connectors Weight 8Kg VCR === This is a good quality JVC S-VHS model, complete with remote control. Its a modern machine by VHS standards, so the tape transport and signal processing are pretty good. You can select S-VHS or composite output via a menu, but you can normally default to S-VHS (regardless of tape format). It seems to adapt well to most tapes and Ive never tweaked it in any way (I also used to keep a cheap VHS machine for the really grotty tapes and adjust that to suit them!). Its all working as it should, though obviously the analogue tuner is now useless. Digitiser ====== This is a Silvercrest unit I bought in Lidl. I really like it, I also had one from a prestige US brand but I preferred the Silvercrest. It has S-video, composite and stereo audio inputs and connects to your PCs USB 2.0 or later port. You may need a TypeA-TypeA USB 2.0 extension cable if the digitiser doesnt have enough physical clearance in your PCs USB port. The video inputs connect to the AG-TB700 and the audio connects directly to the SCART adapter in the back of the VCR.
