I recommend using high quality power strip/surge protector and would consider ones that include conditioners (e.g., Furman) if you have other powered device near the speakers to minimize noise. The model 1700 is less susceptible to noise and interference because it is lower power (40 watt compared to 80 watt Model 880s) and the line of sight transmission. It is very good in small rooms in my experience.
