This is a classic Beocenter 1400 cassette / radio music centre. This was the first Beocenter Bang & Olufsen produced, essentially a Beomaster 901 with a Beocord 900 bolted on the end. I started to restore this one but have decided to let it go owing to the usual mounting pile of projects, and I have another one that is in good order. It’s in decent condition as you can see from the photos. I replaced the cassette belt and it runs well, though it would benefit from the idler tyres being cleaned. They’re not cracked though and are still soft and rubbery. All lamp holders are present, one of the wires has fallen off but will be easy to solder back on. The dial string has unfortunately fallen off and looks like it might have snapped. I can confirm though that the tuner does work, you just can’t tune it from the front of the unit until the dial string is fixed. The amplifier works well, as does the cassette deck. There aren’t any leaking caps that I can see, most of them are solid anyway so little to go wrong. The controls were cleaned and and operate without any noise. Cosmetically it’s in really nice condition. I had to re-cover the side panels as the veneer was pealing (in fact most of it was missing), so I did so with a vinyl that is a close match. I’d probably put more effort into sourcing a veneer if I was restoring it fully, but it looks very presentable. There is no major damage to any of the aluminium, nor the top cover which is still original, or the rear heatsink and panels. Unfortunately the feet and all degraded as is common on these units, I will include what’s left though you’ll need to source replacements. When I restore these I tend to use thick self-adhesive rubber feet with a hole drilled in the middle to fit around the head of the original screw, but you can buy replicas of the originals. All in all it needs some work, but it would make a nice project and is well worth restoring. The auction will run to the end and will sell to the highest bidder. Please only bid you intend to pay, I’ve had a number of unpaid items recently which just creates hassle for both of us and nobody really wins in the end.
