These were added so the speakers could be placed on a bookshelf horizontally. They can easily be removed with no damage to the finish as they are of the stick on type. The sound is excellent and comparable to my Falcon LS3/5as that sell for $3500. The KEF 101s have more bass, a fuller sound and a flatter curve yet they have the sweet midrange and treble that these speakers are known for. I am even including a complete recap set from Falcon Acoustics that I recently purchased for over $100. Even though these were not played much, old caps deteriorate and need to be replaced over time if you want proper performance.
