Leak STEREOFETIC stereo FM Tuner WORKING WELL! ALL ORIGINAL! Here is one of the finest FM stereo tuners that Leak ever made. I know this to be true because I am from Yorkshire and am also VERY OLD and consequently NEVER WRONG. It’s a Leak Stereofetic FM Tuner and it is almost perfect (read on...) This tuner has been in dry storage for over ten years. It hasn’t been re-furbished (you can do that) and it hasn’t had any components/capacitors etc changed. It WORKS very well indeed. The controls don’t crunch. The switches all switch. It is plays loud-and-clear, and is working well on VHF FM. I have been listening to it for the last week and it sounds GREAT. BUT... this tuner has one TEENY WEENY FAULT.. It’s common to find this particular teeny weeny problem on this particular design. Fortunately it is an easy fix. If you are a member of the “Golden Ear’ole Brigade” and you listen to a quality station like Radio Three, you might just be able to spot a slight hum way down in the background. This is due to a ripple on the 5v and 9v lines, which is usually due to one or two dodgy capacitors, replacement price approx 35p each. On nice loud pop stations like Radio 2 and the wonderful Greatest Hits Radio, you’ll probably never hear the slight hum at all. If the vanishingly quiet hum worries you, it may eventually need a prod or two from an expert who is used to poking around the insides of these wonderful legendary ancient beasts. At the moment, it is working well and produces a cheerful sound. Strangely, sometimes the vanishingly quiet hum does actually vanish!!! Our street was blacked out for a few moments in a recent thunderstorm, and the tuner was hum-less for a whole afternoon when the power returned! Low mains? IMPORTANT BIT. It is, as far as I can see, totally original and un-mucked-about-with, so if you’re not used to old vintage gear, I recommend that you think long and hard before you buy it. It dates from 1970 (it’s 53 years old, for goodness sakes). I am not a dealer. I am just a very old bloke thinning out his lifetime collection of STUFF before the floor collapses (or I do). Im selling most of this stuff for much less than I paid for it. What a great business plan (I dont think)! I am certainly NOT INTERESTED IN PROFIT.. ..and indeed, seldom make any! What little profit I do make goes to help a very splendid Wildlife Rescue Charity. The item in the photograph is the item you will get. A good Leak Stereofetic FM stereo tuner in its original wooden sleeve. Working but in need of service. This is a transistor tuner not the earlier valve model. It powers up just fine and the tuning dial moves freely and the needle moves across the tuning display well. This produces a good clean sound but the sound fades and distortion increases the longer it is left on so will need a good service and a thorough clean. Comes with original two pin mains plug for connecting to a Leak amplifier. It has its original interconnecting cables and plugs both very corroded but working. Very dirty from decades of storage and a few stains to the wood but normal for and original example from this era. All original inside. We will not clean it as this is how most customers seem to prefer them now. Will be well packed for delivery.
