I remember being surprised a few years ago when I started to see eBay sellers offering EMPTY original audio shipping cartons. But I really kinda get it. Original owners manuals/advertising materials/ service manuals (and, yes, even packing materials) can transport a new owner of prized audio classics to a zone where he can feel some of what the original first owner must have felt. Pretty cool. In that spirit, and with an appreciation for the REAL WORLD USEFULNESS of having actual factory REPAIR documentation, I am offering a number of service manuals this month. Ive owned these manuals for years -- but they are low dollar items Im just getting around to now. Im a one man band and not getting any younger. Recently serviced including a cool blue LED upgrade, controls cleaned and lubricated with Deoxit and fader lube, tuner was aligned. A few caps on the phono board were replaced and the FETs on the tuner board were replaced as well. It sounds awesome with great bass, mids and highs. I was able to listen to various AM/FM stations & adjust the volume. Since this was the extent of my testing, I am selling it as you see it & NOT FULLY TESTED. Vintage Marantz CD52 Mk II Hi-Fi CD Player - Audiophile Quality, FWO, 1992. DescriptionBack at the start of the 1990s, when compact disc still seemed to the format to end all other formats, the Marantz CD52 was the best CD player on the market - it might not have been quite as good as players costing ten times as much, but in terms of value for money it was absolutely unbeatable at £200. The old saying insists that if it aint broke, you shouldnt fix it. Fortunately, Marantz ignored that and in 1992 made the CD52 even better by adding lots of the features found on the CD52 SE which was £80 more expensive than the standard model - equivalent to around £232 more expensive today. Then they called it the CD52 Mk II and, somehow, found a way to make it in their native Belgium yet sell it at the same price as the original. That, ladies and gentleman, is what we used to call a bloomin good deal. This one is in fair condition with a few small marks here and there from use, though the fascia is in good shape so the scuffs and scratches on top arent going to be an issue if you stick another hi-fi component on it. Most importantly, audio quality is every bit as good as expected - rich and vibrant right across the stage with warmth comparable to that of a high end record player. If you take audio quality seriously, the CD52 Mk II is a bargain that will not disappoint.
