1979 Vintage Panasonic SG-J555L Portable Radio Cassette Record Player Boombox. Good working order and in very good condition as per photographs. This is quite a machine for its time, either mains or battery powered with AM FM radio and single cassette deck and the bonus of a 45 or 33 rpm record player that glides from the base with the touch of a button. The arm still has the needle protector on and doesnt appear to have been used. Its all in a remarkably good state, the buttons arent worn, no dents or dings on the case, aerial is straight tone and volume are good as is the ambient sound button. I checked all the belts and greased the turntable runners but apart from a clean, it needed nothing more. There is no rot or damp in the battery box and it doesnt look like batteries have ever been fitted. Any questions please ask, I have made a video of it working which I can WhatsApp if requested. Panasonic SG-J555L Vinyl Record Player/Cassette Tape/Radio Boombox Ghettoblaster. Used working condition, issues when playing 45 rpm discs. Tape deck tested and working well. All playback functions tested and working well. Recording function tested and working well. Choose either Radio or Phono function. With a blank tape in cassette drawer Press play and record together on tape deck, and then start source material radio or record. Have played back recording and it’s good. There is no adjustment for recording levels so it’s all a bit basic. Record player tested and working. Press button on front to open, plastic door lifts up and deck slides forward/ out. Switch on left selects 45 or 33 rpm. Unclip arm on side and lift onto disc. No return arm, so at end of disc arm start goes into the runout and stays they until you lift arm and manually return it to its rest. Tested at 45 and 33 rpm. Lps 33 rpm play well, 45 rpm speed is out and discs sound slow. Radio is working ok, picks up a few stations, reception isn’t brilliant, may be due to my location or may not. Aerial is good, nice and straight. Both speakers working well. Sound is good. There is a button marked ambience, have listened to player with it on and off, no discernible difference to my ears. Runs off mains power or batteries. Battery compartment is clean and free of rust or corrosion. Takes 8x large “D” sized 1.5v batteries, batteries not included An additional compartment on the right is for storage of mains power lead Uk mains power lead is included Colour is dark grey. Some marks and scuffs to externals of unit. Some marks to speaker grills on the front of unit. In ok condition, on the bottom left on the record player there is a chip, see picture for more detail, and on the battery compartment one of the clips is missing but still closes some marks around the casing, and some marks on the speaker grill which can be seen in the photos Any questions feel free to ask Thanks for looking

Although everything basically works on this system, there are defects: 1. the tape, phono and FM radio selection switches are very erratic & noisy in operation; it might be the contacts just need cleaning or the switches need replacement, or there are dry soldered joints on the circuit board 2. in an attempt to reach these switches to investigate the problem, the record player drawer pulley mechanism became disconnected and the record deck no longer glides out, it has to be pulled out by hand. Without the makers service manual, Ive not been able to work out how to reconnect the pulley cord; manuals seem to be impossible to get in the UK although they are available from the US on eBay. Otherwise it is in reasonable condition for its age with no other defects such as corroded terminals in the battery box.

Ambience Ive checked it out, Radio works fine, Tape deck works fine Record deck opens some times, then doesnt then it needs a little help DECK gos round, but cant test it as I dont have a record to play, Body work is good for its age needs a good clean and polish. Only thing I have noticed when turning sound up its a bit crackly at first, SO will need a good service. Uk seller only
