SAE Mark IV Wood Case Cabinet in great condition. Approximate dimensions of the faceplate opening are 17 inches wide x 5 3/4 high. The case is about 11 1/2 inches long. This came off a Mark IVC amp and will most likely fit other power amps from the same time period. No feet are included. Will be packed extremely well and shipped promptly.

Some of the more difficult to drive Magnepan 1’s, Thiel 3’s, B&W 604’s and CDM 1 SE’s several of those drop down into the 4 ohm range or lower. The SAE showed no signs of being challenged. More than enough power for concert level listening and still able to produce substantial dynamic contrast at low volume listening. The Mark IVB is a direct link to SAE founder Jim Morris. He engineered his first commercial power amplifier the Mark Il in the late 60’s. A little while later, the Mark II was reviewed in Stereophile magazine by the renowned J. Gordon Holt. He summed up his review in writing that the SAE Mark II the first legitimate challenge to best the Marantz 9 which at the time was considered the best stereo power amplifier in the world. SAE entered the high-end market much sought out by audiophiles. Unusual for a power amplifier are the attenuation controls, dials, on the front. Some of the other Mark series feature them as well. I always kept them turned all the way to the right for full power and let the preamp be the only volume control. However, a line source component could be hooked in directly using the 1/4 jacks or RCAs with the provided adapters and use them for power/volume and bypass a preamp. Not my recommendation, but I suppose that would work fine. Channel A and Channel B inputs are 1/4 typical of SAE for their hugh professional series commitments. I will include two new gold plated RCA to 1/4 adapters. The speakers are connected to binding posts that accept bare wire, spades, or banana plugs. The amplifier is a true duo-mono design. Photo 11 is channel Bs mono amplifier mounted inside on the bottom of the housing. Photo 12 is channel As mono amplifier mounted on the inside top of the housing. Each amplifier delivers 60 watts of power into 8 ohm loads continuously with .02% rated distortion. Into 4 ohms it is capable of adding an additional 25 to 30 watts per channel with zero increase in distortion. That power is 1960-1970 type conservative ratings. Though I have never had a reason to check the actual measured output it would not be unusual to see 10 to 15 additional watts each side when measured into those loads. The front face lights have no real function. They were small lamps with green film which I had replaced with equal voltage LEDs for the longer life capability. No on-off switch is part of this amps design. Its on when its plugged in. I used the preamps switched outlet to be its on-off switch although I usually keep most equipment powered on all the time anyway. The amplifier power is independent from the lights. If a bulb becomes burnt out the channel power is still on. They just give it that cool green glow and now with the LEDs they will stay on for a very long time. Photo 8 shows a missing screw. The screw is not lost but the hole it screws into has become to big and doesnt hold it in tightly enough. I will send the screw along with the amp. It will probably need a one size larger screw or a bit of glue to secure the factory one in place.Photo 4 shows the back of the amp with the 4 cooling fins. If you zoom in, you will find 8 replacement screws holding the protective cages in place. I will include the original black screws in shipping however the screws I used I intended as more decorative. They are yellow zinc screws with copper washers. Not that the back of the amp is seen that often, but they do look really nice.
