Uniden BC780XLT Radio 500 Channel Scanner Trunktracker III commercial military aircraft Its said this is a very simple and solid scanner. I am not an expert on these, so I did some manual reading, and found my local airport aircraft control channels, and took it to the air show. It pulled in the channel 6 miles away, about the same as it did on site near the tower. I listened to channel stations on 123.000 and other local channels from the Moline tower, at 8 miles away. It seems scan and search with most functions working, but it also appears one needs to know the desired target channel stations in order to enter them. I think it can scan for already entered channels, but not unknown channels? I read that police channels have changed formats in my town, and this may no longer get those channels. I was unable to find police and fire rescue channels, but didnt try very long. This is highly regarded in build quality, and long life span. I am no expert on these, so hopefully I am describing it correctly. Some internet reviews I found were these: The BC780 UBC780 UBC785 are the only scanners that have tracking filters instead of fixed bandpass filters in the front end. The 108MHz-175MHz range use filters that are tuned to the monitored frequency by varicap diodes that will only pass a very narrow frequency range around the tuned frequency. Its the same principal that most commercial 2-way radios use but theres no 2-way radio that can scan as fast as the 780 does. Its an expensive manufacturing cost to use advanced tracking filters so Uniden didnt do it to any another scanner or any other frequency band than VHF-HI. Uniden at least use several more fixed bandpass filters to cover a smaller frequency range than most other brands of scanners/receivers do, that in most cases will enhance reception. This radio is still a great choice for conventional (non-trunked) analog stuff. Condition As found, tested and working. There is a ding chip on the scan push button. The antenna and power supply are good. I also used this in my car with a 12volt cigarette power adapter. Sold as is, no returns.
