Im not an expert and I didnt open it up but this guy has 5 tubes and I could only see 4 lighted through the back grill. The right channel is out and I checked it with the headphones as well. Google AKAI 1710 tube configuration and it will show you the tubes it takes. I would suspect the right channel tube is spent but thats just an uneducated guess. All the mechanical functions work good, the cosmetics are good, and the left channel sounds good. Tested it with a demo tape by the R&B group The Persuaders given to STAX studios. And its included along with a couple other pre-recorded tapes of no consequence. This deck has built-in speakers and 1/4 phono plug outputs for satellite speakers as well. Box, latches, handle, and hinges are in good shape as well. Made in Japan in the mid 60s I would guess. Sold as-is for you to clean up and check the tubes. Thanks for bidding!

AKAI 1710W reel to reel stereo tape deck with speakers & original cover. This was my dads and it has not been used in the last 50 years, i would say, but carefully stored away.I have powered it up and it seems to be all working. I do not have any tape to confirm though.It is sold as-is. As you can see from the photos, it is in excellent vintage condition. I would say Mint condition as my dad treated everything with respect and everything was packed up so neatly and covered. I hope it goes to a lovely new owner who will appreciate this.
