The P7 is a THX Ultra2 specified 7 channel power amplifier which has been designed to deliver reference standard amplification in high performance audio-video installations. Each channel uses four Sanken heavy duty bipolar output transistors firmly bolted to a large custom designed aluminum heatsink. These heatsinks are thermally very efficient so that, under normal conditions, the amplifier needs only convection cooling and is thus silent in use. With so much power on tap the P7 is equipped with a heavy duty mains a/c cable and socket, coupled to a microprocessor controlled Softstart Sequencer which, to minimize mains inrush currents, turns on the channels one by one. This system is powered from its own small toroidal power transformer, permitting the P7 to be remotely switched in and out of standby via a 12-volt trigger input. The microprocessor continuously monitors the condition of each channel, including temperature, output current and DC offset, to ensure correct operation or instant shut-down under fault conditions.
