A vintage pair of the legendary KEF Reference Series Model 105 Speakers. To my ears these speakers sound absolutely fabulous. They were the ultimate top-end speakers of their day. I have heard that they retailed for around £2000 in late 70s early 80s money, hate to think how much that would be inflation adjusted (this comment was from a youtuber, so no idea as to its ultimate accuracy). The cases are in very good condition, a few minor scratches and dints to the wood surround, but nothing major - see photos. The removable screens are in excellent condition. The speaker diaphragms look very clean, no sign of any wear or degradation. The only obvious sign of age is from the remains of the glue on the top of the bass cabinet where a 1 flat foam top was seated. The foam was in a degraded state so was removed - as you will find for all instances of this speaker. This is not at all visible with the screens on and can probably be cleaned up OK, but as I wasnt sure how to do this properly I have left untouched. The cabinets are on castors and very easy to move around. Sonically they sound perfect with no rattles, vibration or harshness - to the limit that my puny 80w digital amp can push it. The upper speaker box can be rotated and elevation changed up and down to precisely direct the higher frequency sounds. There is a peak level indicator, which is a small red LED located in the tweeter box. This can be adjusted with the dial at the back to choose at what peak wattage input level it will be illuminated. Its design is the result of a long-term development aimed primarily at avoiding the restrictions - particularly in stereo reproduction - imposed by the directional characteristics of conventional loudspeakers. Although the project involved some advanced mathematical theory, the design objective was a very practical one, namely, that the high standard of sound quality and stereo realism to be achieved should not be confined to some preferred listening position, but should be maintained constant over a defined area large enough to accommodate a group of listeners. Judging by the outward appearance of Model 105, the most striking feature is the arrangement of the three drive units, two of which are mounted in a separate housing of somewhat unconventional shape. Kef Model 100 Reference series Centre Speaker. Hello, Im selling my Kef Model 100 Reference series centre speaker that Ive owned since new. Having spoken direct to Kef I decided to upgrade to a Kef R2C centre speaker. The R2C is perfectly fine but I can tell you hand-on-heart that I didnt notice any improvement whatsoever over the Model 100. Annoyingly I do not have the original packaging. We did a loft conversion a few years back and unfortunately I got rid of loads of old boxes, which I now regret. Its in great condition and has been lovingly looked after in our smoke-free home. Matching serial numbers L and R.The centres of the woofers (doughnuts) were done by Wembley Loudspeakers before I bought them and do not need doing again,and these later versions have rubber instead of foam surrounds which do not disintegrate.I replaced the capacitors in the crossovers with a matched set of Alcaps bought from Falcon Accoustics.I also replaced the ferrofluid in the tweeters.They are AWESOME! They ROCK!Quiet or loud they sound clean and clear,.you will hear details in your music that you never heard before.. Ive had a roomfull of people dancing to these on several occasions- they will go VERY LOUD INDEED without distortion or earache,i guess if you are looking at these you will know how legendary they are.Zoom in on the photo of the brass plaque for more info.Absolutely MEGA speakers! Ive loved them for a few years now and will be sad to see them go. Stunning veneer too if you like that sort of thing, not your usual rosewood or walnut.They arent mint but they arent far off.The dust covers are a little scruffy. and thats about the worst of it. I also Have the correct Kube in working order, shown in the last photo.It works perfectly.ive plugged it in and spent a few hours listening.i remember upgrading a couple of capacitors in it to nichicon gold ones a while back I spent a lot more tha the initial bid here and have never regretted a penny of it.you will not be disappointed.. I might deliver for fuel costs but i can only demo them in clacton..
