Unit comprises FM/AM receiver with both aerials, Cassette player/recorder, CD player, 100w 2-way bass reflex speakers, remote control. The only negative concerns the remote control - some of the pixels on the display are missing causing a lined effect on the screen - this does not affect the operation of the remote control in any way. The remote can either be locked into the unit at the top front using a docking system, or can be removed and used as a standard remote control - display stays on constant when the remote is docked and times out when removed - please see last 2 pictures regarding the remote. Cosmetic wise, some light marking on top of the unit - no nasty bumps or dents - the speakers are in excellent condition, no damages to the speaker covers, woofers or tweeters. The original speaker wire is relatively short, will include an additional generous length of new speaker cable. Fantastic sound quality as you would expect from Kenwood - expensive when new - other devices can be added via the Aux portsat the rear, original and complete, all polished up ready to go. Once installed, the frequencies will appear on the readout like the HF frequencies. The range for the converter is 108 to 174 MHz which allows the receiver to have expanded frequencies to pick up local emergency channels, air communications, national (NOAA) weather channels, and amateur radio band of 2 meters. For some people, being able to pick up those upper frequencies is not important, but for others, it will bring a whole new facet for their listening and expand the capabilities of their Kenwood. The VC-20 is pretty easy to install and comes with a copy of the installation sheet to guide you in the process. In addition, the VC-20 comes with the mounting brackets and screws that secure it inside the receiver. You do not require anything but a properly sized Phillips head screwdriver to install and about 30 minutes of time. Basically, you remove the top cover of the Kenwood R-5000, attach the 3 cables inside the Kenwood to the VC-20 specifically for that purpose, and then mount it using the included brackets and screws. Finally you replace the cover and then you are ready to use the VHF unit. This is not a technical installation and should be able to be performed by even the least technical person as it requires no soldering.
