This sale is for a good working R-5000 PLL board that was restored with removal of the epoxy that often causes the PLL to not lock properly. When the PLL does not lock on the R-5000, you will get a dot issue whereby you will see the MHz frequency followed by dots on the display readout. Our service tech installed this board into a working R-5000 to verify operation and the board was aligned so that it will work properly once installed into your receiver.We do want to mention that there are a lot of connectors on this board so that you will need to take care with removal of the bad board and installation of this replacement board lest you break one of the wires on the connectors. If such should result, then once installed, this board will seem to fail to work properly. KENWOOD R-5000 RECEIVER TESTED. Nice estated find tested and working.

The names of Icom, C*ollins, D*rake, & H*ammarlund have become household names. Another manufacturer that probably has a greater name among amateur radio operators than shortwave enthusiasts is the company called Kenwood. Cosmetically, the R-5000 is used and you will see some a variety of marks on the front panel. The receivers covers have been repainted by a previous owner and the color seems to match a platinum color appearance. We have provided HD pictures which you can enlarge and view for the purpose of viewing the cosmetics in detail. This receiver is being offered at a bit lower cost than is customary for us due to the cosmetics.This receiver has been fully tested and works wonderfully with no known issues other than the common key bounce. There is more information toward the bottom of this listing regarding this issue. Please note that a previous owner has installed a cooling fan and attached cooling fins to increase the cooling surface area of the power supply. These two mods dramatically lower the heat produced by the power supply. The R-5000 is known to generate a lot of internal heat from this power supply which can degrade the internal components over time. But the modifications prevent this same heat built-up and greatly prolong the component life. Please view the two pictures at the top of this listing showing the fan and added heat sink fins.We also want to point out that this receiver has the optional DCK-2 kit installed which permits this receiver to be operated off of a DC power supply. Operation using DC current will eliminate most of the internal heat and will generally lower RF noise commonly found from a dirty household AC current line. Our method of tuning is to use the 1 MHz up / down keys to quickly move between bands and then turn the main dial to tune the correct frequency. KENWOOD R-5000 COMMUNICATION RECEIVER EXCELLENT CONDITION.

This item is the VC-20 or VHF converter for that Kenwood R-5000 receiver that you may have. The VC-20 has been tested and operates amazingly well. Once installed, the frequencies will appear on the readout like the HF frequencies. The range for the converter is 108 to 174 MHz which allows the receiver to have expanded frequencies to pick up local emergency channels, air communications, national (NOAA) weather channels, and amateur radio band of 2 meters. For some people, being able to pick up those upper frequencies is not important, but for others, it will bring a whole new facet for their listening and expand the capabilities of their Kenwood. The VC-20 is pretty easy to install and comes with a copy of the installation sheet to guide you in the process. In addition, the VC-20 comes with the mounting brackets and screws that secure it inside the receiver. You do not require anything but a properly sized Phillips head screwdriver to install and about 30 minutes of time. Basically, you remove the top cover of the Kenwood R-5000, attach the 3 cables inside the Kenwood to the VC-20 specifically for that purpose, and then mount it using the included brackets and screws. Finally you replace the cover and then you are ready to use the VHF unit. This is not a technical installation and should be able to be performed by even the least technical person as it requires no soldering. If you look at the picture, you will see that the VC-20 is in very nice condition. We have tested this VC-20 and it operates beautifully with great sensitivity! This is a 6 KHz AM filter supplied by Kenwood as a replacement for the stock filters found inside the Kenwood R-5000 receiver and the TS-450, TS-850S, TS- 930, TS-940S and TS-950 transceivers. Kenwood supplied a filter with the R-5000 receiver, but it did not have very good skirt characteristics and this allowed interference from adjacent stations, whistles, and heterodynes. Kenwood released this upgraded filter which had better skirts and thus provides for a better receiving experience, but the filter was an investment over the original price and many owners chose to avoid the upgrade. As a result, this filter is highly sought after, but not so commonly found for sale. We have previously sold a number of Kenwood filters here on Ebay, but less commonly offer this YK-88A-1 filter. Installation of the filter in the R-5000 is easy. You remove the top cover for the R-5000 using a Phillips screwdriver (8 screws to remove) and then locate the stock AM filter inside the receiver. It is also held into place by 2 Phillips screws. Once you remove the screws for the filter, it unplugs and you then plug in this YK-88A-1 filter and use the 2 screws to secure it into place. You then replace the top cover and you are done with the installation....it is that easy and there is no soldering required. We expect that this process will take about 15 minutes to complete. We have not installed this filter inside any of the Kenwood transceivers, but suspect that installation is also easy and non-technical. This sale is for the optional IC-10 chips for the Kenwood R-5000 receiver to enable the owner to connect the receiver to the computer for remote access and control. Also included with this sale is a copy of the installation instructions and a copy of the IC-10 user manual. We found that the installation will take a little bit of time as the installer is required to remove both the top and bottom covers, loosen and remove a metal shield over the IC chip sockets, and then remove the 4 screws securing the front panel so that it can open and allow access to the IC sockets. There is no soldering and this is not an installation requiring technical skill. But the installer will need to handle the IC chips with care to insure that they are carefully installed without bending the small metal leads.In addition to these IC chips, the user will need to secure the proper computer RS-232 cable to connect between the receiver and your computer and also the proper operational software. The cable can be purchased on Ebay. The software may be purchased from a couple of different sources that typically supply receiver operational software.
