Manley Laboratories The Wave Valve Preamplifier with DAC Later Improved 24/96 2nd Generation Version An extremely rare opportunity to buy a proper bit of high-end kit here!Designed and built with a cost no object attitude by a manufacturer with impeccable history. That rather unusually spans both pro audio and domestic hi-fi.It cost around £8000 15 years a go and an equivalent unit would no doubt have to be priced at well over double that amount these days. Regardless of cost, it sounds sublime and has been a pleasure to use always.I count myself lucky to have owned this and will be genuinely sorry to see it go. As these hardly ever come up over here in Europe, this one had to be sourced in the USA around 5 years ago.It was then sent to Manley Laboratories for a full check up and to have the PSU unit converted to 240v.Upon arrival in the UK the faceplate of the main unit was found to have a chip in one corner. So Manley sent a new replacement faceplate and paid for it to be professionally fitted over here.It has worked perfectly ever since and continues to do so. Cosmetically, overall it is in very good condition despite picking up a few minor marks here and there. However, most of these are to the casework of the PSU unit rather than the main unit and do not detract greatly from its overall appearance in my opinion.Please see the photos above.The separate PSU unit is connected to the main unit by a substantial 2 metre long cable. So can be positioned well out of the way. The combination of features and functions came about from analyzing existing systems and finding them functional but lacking in elegance in signal flow, operational convenience, and synergy.
