With so much power on tap the p7 is equipped with a heavy duty mains cable and socket, coupled to a microprocessor controlled softstart sequencer which, to minimise mains inrush currents, turns on the channels one by one. This system is powered from its own small toroidal power transformer, permitting the p7 to be remotely switched in and out of standby via a 12-volt trigger input.The microprocessor continuously monitors the condition of each channel, including temperature, output current and dc offset, to ensure correct operation or instant shut-down under fault conditions. It also controls a variable-speed cooling fan, for those rare occasions when convection cooling is not enough. The p7 features a beautifully contoured front panel and integral air intake slot, with 7 multicoloured LEDs to show the operating status of each channel. The whole case is made of heavy gauge aluminium, which helps the overall sound quality due to its excellent thermal and non-magnetic properties.
