Diese gibt es kostenlos im App-Store bzw. im Google Play Store. Es können 5 Favoriten-Sender direkt auf dem Gerät gespeichert werden und von dort auch ohne App aufgerufen werden. Alle weiteren Sender lassen sich über die App aufrufen und werden dann vom Gerät wiedergegeben, d.h. die App funktioniert wie eine Fernbedienung. Zur Einrichtung des integrierten Chromecast wird die kostenlose Google-Home-App benötigt, damit kann das Gerät als Lautsprecher in das eigene Google-Home-Zuhause integriert werden und es lassen sich Audio-Inhalte vom Android-Smartphone oder mittels Chrome-Browser auch vom PC an das Gerät schicken. Das geschieht dann übers LAN oder WLAN, damit ist der Klang besser als bei z.B. Bluetooth und die Verbindungsqualität zwischen den beiden Geräten ist nicht entscheidend (die Anlage spielt selbst dann noch weiter, wenn das Handy z.B. ausgeschaltet wird, weil das integrierte Chromecast sich die Inhalte direkt aus dem Internet holt). Viele Services, z.B. YouTube Music, Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn etc. sind mit Chromecast kompatibel. Man kann aber auch die Audiowiedergabe eines Geräts (PC mit Chrome oder über Android) direkt an das Chromecast via (W)LAN streamen - hierfür reicht es, wenn beide Geräte im gleichen Netzwerk sind.
