PIONEER A400 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER Classic 1990s Pioneer giant killer integrated amplifier designed to challenge the purist end of the UK amplifier market. Universally positive reviews with claims that it bettered anything else below £1000, despite retailing at £240. Pioneer dispensed with tone controls, loudness, filters, used a split volume control instead of a separate balance control and spent the money saved on the internals. One pair of speaker outputs, headphone jack, no remote. Plenty of power with 50W into 8 Ohms. Switchable moving magnet/moving coil phono input plus 2 tape loops plus 3 other line level inputs. Designed and manufactured in Japan. Good build quality with all metal casing and fascia. Good working order: all switches and potentiometers crackle free, no silent spots or poor switching. Fascia in very good condition with only a few minor marks; case also very good, some light marks from stacking. On the front fascia from left to right: power on, headphone jack, record selector, input selector, L&R split volume control, MM/MC phono input switch.. On the back from left to right: ground wire screw, RCA/phono inputs for phono and CD, tuner, aux and 2 tape loops, one pair of 4mm banana socket/bare wire speaker terminals, captive mains cable. Pioneer A400 Stereo Amplifier In VERY good condition and full working order.The whole ethos of this amp was keep it simple, so one set of loudspeaker outputs, no tone controls, no separate balance control ( two inline volume controls). No flashing lights, just quality sound. Technical specs below. I was using this amp last week on CD and turntable (moving magnet) inputs and it sounded just great.Three line inputs (Line, CD, Tuner) and 1 phono input switchable between moving magnet and moving coil.Two record/playback outputs/inputs This amp is almost perfect cosmetically, but there are three small nibbles on the top left hand edge of the casing towards the rear (last image).
