Quad 21L Floor-mount Speakers (Rosewood). About a year or two back I acquired a beautiful set of Quad 21L 2-way tower speakers. A few hairline scratches he and there, mostly on the top of one of the speakers, otherwise in real nice condition. Dual taps (LF and HF) to support biwiring and biamping. These originally sold for about $1,200, so keep that in mind if considering an offer. Specifications: Frequency response: 35 Hz to 24 kHz Rated impedance: 6 ohms +/- 15% Resonant Frequency: 40 Hz +/- 6 Hz Output SPL: 88 dB +/- 3 dB Power Input: 125W Maximum SPL: 88dB Crossover frequency: 2.2 kHz Weight: 14.5 kg Dimensions: 205mm x 780mm x 263mm I did determine shortly after acquiring them a flaw in one speaker traced to its tweeter. Absent available replacement from Quad, I looked into alternatives and settled first on the Dayton Audio ND25FA-4 which has a structure closely matching the Quad original, then to a higher end SB Acoustics SB21SDC-C000-4. I replaced the other tweeter too so the two speakers will match in sonic signature. The new tweeter frames are just a bit larger than the opening, so I had to shave 1-2mm around that opening to get it to fit flush. Photos show the results. The FFT readings were done in a mixed-use room, not a proper listening room, using pink noise, and yet the results are quite good.
