These attenuators have become surplus to requirements, I previously used them with my Leak valve amplifiers (Stereo 20 and TL12+s) which were super sensitive to high inputs, so much so that without them I could barely get the volume control beyond 9 oclock. They reduce the input by about 10db and they work like a dream! Now Ive moved on to more modern amplification they are no longer necessary, and so I am putting them up for auction. This is from Rothwell themselves for your information In-line attenuators reduces signal level to improve control of volume at low levels. They can improve signal to noise ratio in pre/power amps. The standard attenuators are designed to be used on the input sockets of pre-amps, power amps or integrated amps rather than the output sockets of source equipment such as CD players. The level of attenuation that Rothwell recommend for the vast majority of applications is -10dB. They also offer -15dB and -20dB attenuators where a greater level of attenuation is required. 15dB is useful when a system has even more excess gain than usual. 20dB is recommended when a lot of attenuation is not usually required. 10dB is the right choice in about 80% of cases, in our experience. Purchased new at the end of May last year. These do exactly what they say on the tin! I have used them with great success on the aux’ inputs of a vintage Sansui amp connected to a Rega Fono phono stage. Without them I could barely get the volume dial above 2 or 3, with attenuation I was able to control the volume much better up to 5 or 6 on the dial without and much better control at lower volume. Reason for selling is that I have obtained a pair of interconnects which have attenuation built in. Here is the information from Analogue Seduction’s website where I purchased them. “Here's the solution to a problem from which far too many audiophiles suffer - too much gain in the system. The symptoms are easy enough to spot - the volume is plenty loud enough with the volume control set to the 9 o'clock position, too loud with the volume control at 10 o'clock, and fine control at low levels is impossible. The Rothwell In-Line Attenuators are the answer. These audiophile devices simply plug into any input sockets and reduce signal levels by 10dB*. They can be used with integrated amps or pre/power amps, and are compatible with equipment over the entire price spectrum, from budget to extreme high end.
