Reluctantly offered for sale here is my old Ferguson model 378 vintage / antique radio, dating to the mid-1930s (probably1936, if you believe some of the Google search results). In lovely cosmetic condition (as photographed) it has the full complement of original marbled brown-and-black control knobs, the original speaker cloth and wooden back panel. The cabinet does bear a few minor blemishes consistent with its age, but Id be amazed if there are many others around in condition as good as this. I bought the radio many years ago (in my bachelor days!) in restored, working condition and it can safely be described (as a friend once did) as a large and loud beast! This is one of the last upright or so-called tombstone sets, and despite stating Ferguson, London, England on its rear name plate, and bearing British and European stations on its beautiful tuning dial, this was clearly an American-inspired design and notably uses American UX6-based valves rather than the more usual 7-pin or Octal British valves of the day. For those interested in the technical details, Ive included a screen shot of the basic service information. (Ill gladly email this as PDF to the purchaser.) This was a top-of-the range model in 1936, offering long, medium and two short wave bands, a beautiful two-speed tuning control, and a push-pull output stage (2 x type 42 valves) delivering around 8 watts into a large powered-field Rola loudspeaker. It has nine valves in total (note that the GPO/BBC licence plate on the back states 7 valves but this was the number of active valves in the receiving chain, and doesnt include the two 12Z3 rectifier valves). The tuning dial lights up on one side or the other, depending on which wave band is selected via the front panel rotary switch. This is a large and heavy radio: height approximately 55cm, 40cm wide and 30cm deep. This version is the AC/DC or universal model, capable of operating from DC mains supplies as well as AC. Note that this means that the chassis is connected directly to the mains neutral, and whilst perfectly safe as-such, its extremely important that the mains power connections are NOT reversed. It was in working order when I last powered it up, but that would be 10-15 years ago, and I would advise any purchaser to proceed with caution, preferably powering the main HT rail up from a separate power supply to allow the electrolytic capacitors (which are original, and were still working just fine, than you!) to re-form before applying mains. It may well now require additional servicing and maintenance from an electrical standpoint. As a qualified electronics engineer, if time was unlimited Id absolutely do this myself (and if it doesnt sell that may yet happen) but Ive presently neither the time to work on it, nor - realistically - the space to display this radio as it should be. So although Ill be genuinely sad to see it go, its probably time it went to a collector or enthusiast who will give it the time and TLC it surely deserves. This is a valuable, fragile and heavy item and therefore not suitable for postage or sending by the usual courier services. Im happy to pack it in a box for collection-in-person if you wish (man with a van services) but it is offered strictly as collection-only from the York-Harrogate-Boroughbridge area of North Yorkshire.

Verkaufe Tonbandgert Sony Tc-378 nebst Zubehr. Das Tonbandgert ist in einem optisch guten Zustand. Der mitabgebildete und dann mitgelieferte Standfuss wurde damals eigens vom damaligen Besitzer selbst gebaut und kann mit 2 keine Holzschrubchen am Boden des Gertes befestigt werden. Das Gert stand auf dem Fussboden neben der Stereoanlage. 2 Mngel mssen hier erwhnt werden. Zum einem hat sich der Gummi des Bandzhlwerkes aufgelst und wurde nicht mehr ersetzt. Zum anderem haben beide Line in +Line out Anschlsse Wackelkontakte. Daher wurde das Gert von uns nur mit einem 5 poligen Dioden/ Chinchkabel verwendet. Auch dieses lege ich mit dazu( eine Seite 5 polige Dioden/ 4 mal Chinch 2 Eingnge + 2 Ausgnge beschriftet.) Zustzlich gibt es noch 46 bespielte Bnder + 14 Leerrollen dazu. Bei der Musik handelt es sich vorwiegend um Rockn Roll der 60-70 iger Jahre. Alle Funktionen, bist auf die eben erwhnten funktionieren einwandfrei! Das Gert wird verschickt kann aber auch gern abgeholt werden. Versandkosten bernimmt der Kufer. Es handelt sich um einen Privatkauf, daher keine Rcknahme.
