The headphones have a built-in volume control and operate on AA batteries. I used these with my stereo system for private listening. I discovered that the sound quality was much better and there were fewer dead spots when multiple emitters were used. So I added a second emitter (see photos). With two emitters the headphones can receive a strong clear signal in a relatively large room even if you move around. This listing includes one MDR-IF510 headset (the system can drive more than one), one TMR-IF10 base station, two IFP-10 infrared emitters, an original Sony service manual, and other paperwork, all in the Sony box.
