Over the years, this turntable has become a legend of sorts in audiophile circles. When first released in 1975, Sonys suggested retail price was $900, over $5000 in todays currency. In addition to being a direct drive design, Sony pulled out all the stops when refining its technology. It features a carbon fiber tonearm, quartz lock speed control (which is defeatable), automatic tonearm return and an anti static grid built into the dust cover. It also plays 45s. Weighing in at nearly 40 lbs., this table was designed to last indefinitely due to the massive motor assembly it employs. It weighs as much as my 200 wpc power amp! My service tech calls it a work of art. I dont have the original shipping carton (it wouldnt be very sturdy after nearly 50 years anyway) but will make sure it is packed professionally.
