The coupling capacitors are German WIMA film capacitors . These capacitors are used in only the finest audio components . Every single diode and transistor and resistors replaced with quality new ones again better then the tired old ones . The power supply had the double diode mod in place of D413 the center of this diode tied to the common ground power supply for rock steady +- 55 source voltage for the VFETs. Bourn and vishay precision multi turn 2.2k potentiometers installed in power supply board and F power amp driver board . All transistors on power amp board are new. The 2SA705 transistors replaced with BC556B transistors in differential amp and closely matched in hfe gain for ultra low DC OFFSET. 2. There are 3 infamous double diodes in The F power amp These are also called death diodes as they are know to take out the precious VFETs when they go out of order without any reason , these death diodes have be replaced with twin 1N5148 diodes for each of these diodes. THIS IS A MUST DO IN ANY SERVICE OF ANY SONY VFET AMP! PERIOD! Just cleaning the switches and controls is not enough! All electrolytic and almost all coupling capacitors are new on this board , the power supply and the various pre amp board . The 4X 0.47ohm/5w power resistors on power amp board are new quality vishay ones. 3. J113 N channel JFET transistors installed in place of 2SK24A in pre amp for superior sound , the phono section has2 original Sony minature 2SK63 VFETs for truly awesome phono sound from your quality turntable . 4. New Teflon wires installed were necessary. 4X new 470 ohms resistors in headphone board . The speaker relay points cleaned and polished . All controls and switches cleaned for maximum performance . 5. The four VFETs are original vintage SONY all tested . Before VFETs were installed the DC bias adjust pots were adjusted to show maximum voltage reading in this case +- +- 79 to +- 80Vdc on each gate of eachVFET. 6. There is some cosmetic wear which to be expected after 40 years since new in form of scratches in chrome of the front panel and a bend in the gray metal top cover rear left bottom corner and some cosmetic wear in gray finish and in the bottom side which was touched with matching gray paint . Conversion manual from Sony V-Fet 2SJ18 & 2SK60 to Mosfet TA-4650 and TA-5650 / Wega V-4810. This conversion is supplied in PDF format in English Complete with schematics, photos, instructions and trouble shooting. Very easy to perform by hobbyist with some experience in repair. The conversion is possible with different Mosfets types. I myself prefer Hitachi 2SJ50 / 56 & 2SK135 / 176. The BUZ900 series and 10N16, 10P16 are also possible. For Sale one vintage (1975-1977?) Sony TA-4650 in proper Euro spec (not Japanese / US 110v version) One could write reams on the benefits of Static induction transistors or Vertical Field effect transistors (V-Fets). Just do an internet search if thats new to you. (Too expensive to produce & too hard to use, seems to have been their death knell) But... V-FETs - Sony went off and developed a transistor that worked like a Valve/Tube = Result a transistor amp that sounds like a tube amp! So these are *bit* famous for their musicality, among other things. Only problem is, theres getting less and less of them because some common diodes in the associated circuit have a tendency to die, taking the whole merry show with them. Actually, Sony went off and re-invented the wheel several times. Not only is the Output stage V-fet; so is the phono stage, very specifically aimed at turntable users (I am not one) but the 2sk79s are similar to an ECC88 - So you get the idea by now... This amp has been subject to a full restoration. Documented on DIYAudio but in summary: Those diodes replacedElectrolytic caps replacedClippy speaker terminals changed for banana typesFilm caps in the signal pathPSU centre grounding Changes associated with the Dutch service bulletinPotentiometers CLEANED Above all, re-biasing of the output devices I cant post the link to the article dont think, (even though I wrote it) so message me for a link if interested.
