These i.LINK inputs allow you to use a single digital cable instead of six analog cables. The i.LINK interface utilizes Digital Transmission Content Protection (DTCP) to protect the music from piracy. HATS: The receiver uses a High quality digital Audio Transmission System (HATS) circuit to accept the challenge of synchronizing six 1-bit SACD streams being transmitted at 2.8224MHz with the receivers master clock without jitter. HATS incorporates three main elements: Variable-speed data transmission from the player, a buffer memory in the receiver, and command signals from the receiver to the player to control transmission speed. Because the receiver controls the speed of the audio data from the player, the memory buffer can output a totally jitter-free bit stream to the receivers quartz-crystal accurate master clock. The resulting audio performance is purely accurate and distortion-free. HDMI Interface: The STR-DA7100ES can switch between two HDMI sources and send the selected signal to a television. The receiver will also upconvert any composite video, S-Video or analog component video source to the HDMI digital output.A/V Sync: Todays advanced televisions and video projectors often incorporate sophisticated video signal processing to optimize the image quality. These circuits often require buffer memories, which result in a slight delay of the video signal. This receiver can correct this sound and picture mismatch by using A/V Sync, which delays the audio up to 200 milliseconds in 10 millisecond increments.32-Bit S-Master Pro Amplifier: The 32-Bit S-Master Pro Amplifier allows for complete Digital streaming of Data for a clean error free sound. The 32-Bit S-Master Pro Amplifier offers the following benefits: low heat generation, minimum thermal modulation distortion, and no crossover distortion.Surround Speaker Switching: In addition to A and B main speaker outputs, the STR-DA7100ES also offers two sets of speaker outputs for the left and right surround channels. You can choose between the A set of surrounds, the B set of surrounds, or both A + B surround speakers, in addition to a surround back pair of speakers. The 9.1-channel configuration is closer to the array of surround speakers used in a commercial movie theater, and exactly the same as the 9.1-channel configuration of Hollywood dubbing theaters.Surround Back Decoding: This function lets you select the decoding mode for the surround back signals of the multi-channel input stream. When you select Auto and the input stream contains 6.1-channel information, the appropriate decoder is applied to decode the surround back signal (Dolby Digital EX, DTS Matrix, or DTS Discrete decoder). When you select On, Dolby Digital EX is applied to decode the surround back signal regardless of the 6.1-channel (or 5.1-channel) information. In either mode, if two surround back speakers are connected, the output will be 7.1 channels. The binding posts are not 5-way because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs. The minimum recommended impedance for the front and surround speaker outputs (A or B) is 4 ohms. If you plan on playing A + B simultaneously, the minimum recommended impedance for both sets of speaker outputs is 8 ohms. The recommended minimum impedance for the center, and left and right back surround is 4 ohms. There is a 4-ohm/8-ohm impedance switch on this receiver. If you connect only one surround back speaker, it should be connected to the left surround back speaker terminal.Multi-Channel Input: The receiver is equipped with a multi-channel input for high-quality analog components such as SACD or DVD-Audio. The multi-channel input can be used to input either a 7.1-channel or 5.1-channel analog sources.Control A1 II: The Control A1 II Control System was designed to simplify the operation of audio systems composed of separate Sony components.
