You are bidding on a Western Electric Type 549W Horn Speaker Driver from the 1920s. The driver itself is mounted inside a case, with a Type 8-B mounting bracket. The driver is good measuring about 1200 ohms. It is in nice all original condition. I removed the driver from the case so that the type number could be read, and photos taken. There are still seals on the screws that would allow a look inside the driver, so I left them intact, and did not look inside. This was apparently owned by station KMBC, as those call letters are lightly scratched in the case and bracket. The cap over the threaded nipple for attaching the horn is still present. I believe the threads are the same as for a 555 driver. The driver itself, with cap, are black painted solid brass. The case and bracket are black painted iron. It has a nice original Western Electric decal on one side. This driver is not encountered as often as the similar 551W, and the case and bracket are seldom seen. One WESTERN ELECTRIC 350B tubes From 1949 (#949 prod. series). Tube tests almost 100% (reference is ©31 = 65%) on my Hickok TV-7. Play-tested in WE 94D amplifier, driven by WE 348As (see my other auctions for WE 350B and 348A tubes), exceptionally wonderful sound! Firm socket, no rattle, no lose glass inside, no gas et al. For sale: 1 x 49 feet (~ 15 meters) wire from WE 1086/87B amplifier system used in Talkie Movie Theater with late 1930’s Mirrophonic Sound in New York City, NY. Wires used to provided connection between output sound coil power distribution cabinets in amplifier/projector room and stage. We have 2 about 47-49 feet long. Actual length is about 49 feet (but one end could be rough or dirty from cutting electrical conduits during demolition) , so we listed it as clean 46 feet each. Stranded conductor is about 9-10 Gauge, smade of WE’s “Hard Drawn” tinned copper in tight braided Black fabric jacket. Wires are very dusty from removing during demolition. Insulation condition: conductor is good and bright after 70-80 years, still retained original smell, pulled from metal tube conduits, see pictures. Wires sold AS IS no return because of age.
