Radio has the optional voice synthesizer EX-310 installed. Also has a mod of a d/c power jack to hook directly to a regulated 12 volt supply ( not tested). Installed a/c power supply works fine. Also has a fan installed on the rear panel. (A bit noisy). I heard local fm repeater, as well as local fm stations. All sound good. With a signal generator, I injected -93dBm at 1.2 ghz. And got a s7 reading on the rigs S meter. No further testing done. This rig might have problems which have not been found in this limited testing. Memory battery backup is in a easy to replace holder. Does not have the handheld remote control. The case has been repainted. The top cover had at one time air holes drilled in it. They seem to be filled in with epoxy, but a very poor job of sanding the epoxy down. Some scratches also on case. Since I don’t know the history of the rig, due to its age, and due to part swappers, and due to minimal testing, being sold as for parts or repair with absolutely no refunds or returns. This sale is for a working FM module manufactured by Icom for its IC-R70 and IC-R71A(E) receivers. Once installed, the FM module will expand the receivers capabilities by enabling it to then utilize the FM mode during reception. There are certain types of signals in the HF receiving range that require this module and this would be considered narrow FM and thus not the wide FM used for commercial FM broadcasts. This module is very scarce and we have only listed a couple of them here on Ebay in the 17 years of selling and specializing in communications receivers and accessories. The module comes with installation instructions for the IC-R70 receiver, but installation in the IC-R71A is similar. The installation is non-technical and requires no soldering....only removal of the screws that hold the top cover in place and then two screws to mount the IC-EX257 before connecting it inside the receiver.
