LEAK Stereo 20 Valve Amplifier + Point One Preamplifier Vintage Leak Stereo 20 Valve amplifier plus a Point One Stereo Valve Preamplifier. They have been in dry storage for quite a few years and now been dusted down and externally wiped/cleaned up. Both are in very good cosmetic condition and have been well looked after. They appear to be original and unmolested internally. The Point One preamplifier looks almost brand new. The amplifiers were connected using the included cables and when briefly powered up they appear to be working fine with minor audio scratches/noise heard when controls/potentiometers were used. The audio sounded great on a pair of Castle Conway Speakers. Due to the age of these amplifiers it is recommended that a professional service is carried out before being used in earnest. Included will be a power lead with original Bulgin plug, a switch cable which is connected to the main amplifier and the Octal cable for connection from Point One Preamplifier to the Stereo 20 Amplifier. No modifications have been made to the original design of the circuitry except for where equivalent component values are no longer available so it should sound the same, or even better than when it was made in 1960? Cosmetically immaculate. There are some minor marks such as slight wear to paint on corners/edges and pinholes as shown in the photos that form part of the description. Note: this amp was designed in the 1950s to be mounted inside a cabinet, hence there are electrical safety issues if it was exposed. I have addressed many of these issues to make the amp as safe as possible when it is used on display. The bottom of the amp has been left open but a ventilated cover plate can be contained on ebay for ~£25 for further electrical protection if needed. All Resistors have been replaced with over-rated (higher wattage), high quality 2W and 5W Kiwame and Allen Bradley components. The 100? Fuse Resistor has been replaced by a 5W resistor and a Fuse has been added in-line to protect the output transformers in the event of a failure. FYI, the minimally rated fuse resistor was designed to drop off if it over-heated enough to melt the solder connections. All signal path Capacitors have been replaced with high quality F&T polyester and Mallory aluminium electrolytic components. Reservoir Capacitors have been re-stuffed with Nichicon VY polyester electrolytics to retain the original appearance. The front can is polished rather than trying to match the paint colour to the original. My objective was to restore the sound, make it safe and restore the appearance where possible. Phono Inputs have been upgraded with gold-plated components. Speaker Output terminals have been replaced with 4mm Banana Sockets. Power Input plug & socket has been removed to make electrically safe: the original Bulgin leaded socket can unscrew in situ exposing live terminals. There has been some replacement wire in the power supply wiring where original wire insulation had become brittle. Auxiliary Power Output Sockets have been removed to make electrically safe. Switch cable has been replaced by a dual-pole Power Switch and slow-startup device to protect the amp when it is switched on. This amp will be supplied with a full set of used Valves, from my stock, so that it will work out of the box. The new owner can then choose the valves that they prefer in the future if they want to upgrade. This Power Amp does not require a Powered pre-amp so most pre-amps will work, including a Passive Pre-Amp. I have tested this amp using an Onkyo Integra P-304 pre-amp. The amplifier also comes with a brand new (30gbp) black powder coated bottom cover (with vents) and a new set of tall rubber feet to give good air flow. The paintwork is in great condition with only a few small age related scratches – see images. There some dust around the transformers which Ill clean up.
